Current schools: OPAL school visit – North Mundham Primary School | North Mundham Primary School

Jun 26, 2025 (UTC+1)
North Mundham
Cultural Experiences
Play makes up 20% of children's primary school life. How do schools plan for this 20%? What are the roles of the play team? How do we develop our best teams? How can playtime support us to foster our school's values in all our children – resilience, courage, tenacity, kindness? How do children get their playthings out and put them away? What are the solutions to foxes and sandpits? Join Kurti Birkenbeil, OPAL mentor and expert in improving children's playtimes, and hear from the staff at North Mundham Primary School. They will be sharing their experiences of how the OPAL Primary Programme has transformed playtimes and the impact that this has had on the school and the children. Agenda 12pm – 1pm Playtime observation Observe how the school's play team ensures all the children have access to all play types in this playground. 1pm – 2: 15pm OPAL networking Meet with fellow OPAL schools to discuss the practicalities of developing the OPAL Primary Programme, ask questions and connect with others on the same journey. About North Mundham Primary School North Mundham Primary School was originally opened in 1875, built on land donated by William Fletcher, a local benefactor. The school expanded over time, and during the 1970s a new building was opened in the village, with the school operating across two sites. In 1989, the original school was completely refurbished and enlarged, bringing the school back onto a single site. The addition of a double detached mobile in 1997 established North Mundham as a one-form entry school. The buildings and grounds now include a secure play area for the reception class, an ICT suite, a library, a music/community room, and a group room. The school also benefits from a playing field, two playgrounds, a small orchard, an outdoor classroom, and a woodland area used for forest school. These are all valuable outdoor play and learning environments. There is a good range of extra-curricular activities, and all pupils are encouraged to take part. Sports matches are played against local schools, and links with the wider community are very strong. Additional information Refreshments will be provided but please bring your own lunch. On street parking available, please be mindful not to block driveways. Numbers are limited so sign up soon. If you can no longer come, please let us know so we can release your place to another school. Information Source: OPAL Outdoor Play and Learning CIC | eventbrite
