Gibbet Hill Farm Bird Walk - June 1 | Gibbet Hill Grill
Jun 1, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Groton
To date, Gibbet Hill has recorded over 70 species of birds. The property boasts a variety of enticing wildlife habitats that include open grasslands, wetlands, shrubby areas, and forest.
The farm itself is a wonderful place to view many birds, but the retention pond, flower boxes, the trail to the top of the hill, and the trees and bushes along the parking lot edges are all great birding hotspots at Gibbet Hill. Some birds call the farm home all year long, some visit during the growing season, using the property as their breeding grounds (18 different species to date), and some birds are just passing through (Tennessee warbler, bobolink, and white crowned sparrow...just to name a few!)
Late spring is a wonderful time to observe birds on the farm as some of the migrating species are just arriving or stopping by to feul up as they continue their migration and some migrating species are breeding. We invite you to join us to learn about the farm's role in the varying bird life on the Gibbet Hill Farm and to stroll the property with us to see which bird species present themselves!
This workshop is geared towards beginners, but birdwatchers of all levels are welcome. Binoculars are recommended.
Participants will receive a souvenir tote.
The bird walk will be led by Webber Restaurant Group marketing director and experienced birder, Amy Severino.
The group will meet at the flower boxes in front of Gibbet Hill Grill at 7:30am, when bird activity is at its peak...in other words, 'the early bird, gets the worm!'
The class may be postponed if weather is inclement, please provide an accurate cell phone number and check your email the day before, for confirmation. Please wear clothing appropriate for the weather, and wear shoes appropriate for the weather and sturdy enough for walking in and around the farm.
*Please note, we cannot guarantee of how many species we will see, however a typical spring morning walk can yield 10-20 different species depending on spring migration patterns, recent weather, etc. Some years we have seen over 40 species during a late spring bird walk!
