Lisa's Village: An Evening of Support | Texas Gate Bar & Grill
Jun 14, 2025 (UTC-6)ENDED
Cochrane
Hello Community of Cochrane!
We are reaching out on behalf of our dear friend, Lisa. If you’ve met Lisa, you know how kind and selfless she is—always helping others, always smiling through the pain. But behind that smile is someone who’s been silently suffering for years. But now, Lisa needs the community’s help.
Lisa has endured over 15 surgeries, a rare nerve disorder, and more than 10 traumatic concussions. Her brain is so sensitive now that even a small movement can cause another injury. These health battles have taken everything—her ability to work, her independence, and so much of her life.
Lisa and her husband Joey have exhausted all their resources—savings, insurance, and family support. Lisa now requires specialized treatments that are not covered by healthcare.
If you are able to join us, purchase a support ticket, donate a service or item for the raffle, or help spread the word, we would greatly appreciate it.
Lisa and Joey are forever grateful for your support and consideration.
See you on June 14th!

Slay It Ain't So: A Friday the 13th night of Bookish Suspense | Found Books & Shop
Jun 13, 2025 (UTC-6)ENDED
Cochrane
Join us for a thrilling evening with authors Jaima Fixsen (in-person) & Emma C Wells (virtually) as we explore their latest novels,
The Specimen
&
This Girls a Killer
The night will get into themes of rage, suspense & of course murder from two very different thrilling genres & themes. Jaima will offer book signings & Emma will be sending signed book plates to add to your shelves!
About Jaima:
"I’m a USA Today bestselling author writing about strong-minded women living in times past. As Audrey Blake, I co-write STEMinist historical fiction with my friend Regina Sirois. We met in an online writing contest, and now we have published three books together, with translations published or forthcoming in nine languages!
My crime thrillers are solo projects and published under my own name. In 2024 I’m excited to bring you two new novels, The Specimen (as Jaima Fixsen) and The Woman With No Name (as Audrey Blake).
As a compulsive reader, I’ve yet to encounter a genre I don’t enjoy. Perhaps there’s still time, but I’m not betting on it!"
About Emma:
Emma loves anti-heroes, dark humor, witty banter, and ride-or-die friendships. Twisty relationships are her kryptonite (or catnip—depending on how you look at it). THIS GIRL’S A KILLER is her debut novel. Emma lives in Louisiana where the novel is based.
About the Books:
This Girls a Killer
For readers of
Finlay Donovan is Killing It
and
The Bandit Queens
comes a bright and biting thriller following Cordelia Black, a best friend, a businesswoman, and, in her spare time, a killer of bad men.
Ask Cordelia Black why she did it. The answer will always be: He had it coming.
Cordelia Black loves exactly three things: Her chosen family, her hairdresser (worth every penny plus tip), and killing bad men.
By day she's an ambitious pharma rep with a flawless reputation and designer wardrobe. By night, she culls South Louisiana of unscrupulous men—monsters who think they've evaded justice, until they meet her. Sure, the evening news may have started throwing around phrases like "serial killer," but Cordelia knows that's absurd. She's not a killer, she is simply karma. And being karma requires complete and utter control.
But when Cordelia discovers a flaw in her perfectly designed system for eliminating monsters, pressure heightens. And it only intensifies when her best friend starts dating a man Cordelia isn't sure is a good person. Someone who might just unravel everything she has worked for.
Soon enough Cordelia has to come face to face with the choices she's made. The good, the bad, and the murderous. Both her family, and her freedom, depend on it.
The Specimen
Walk carefully, lest you become a part of Dr. Burnett’s collection…
1826. Isobel Tait finds herself, by chance, staring at a tiny human heart floating in a jar. It should be of little consequence; Dr. Burnett is renowned for his collection of oddities and medical specimens, and this, a juvenile heart with a damaged mitral valve, is not the strangest thing on display. Except that the condition is rare, and that Isobel’s young son, who has been missing for months, suffered from the ailment.
A phantom pulse beats in Isobel’s ears. She knows something here isn’t right.
Missing persons cases are all too common in Edinburgh, where people simply vanish like mist. But Burnett is obsessed with his specimens – how far would he go to acquire a new one? Determined to investigate, Isobel joins his staff as the keeper of his collection. What she’ll unearth, though, is far worse than any of her nightmares…
Based on true crimes, The Specimen is a mesmerizing story about one woman’s search for truth and vengeance in the darkest of places—where the deadliest secrets lie hidden in plain sight, on a freshly dusted shelf.

Solstice Authentic Self Constellations & Breathwork | The Yurt
Jun 20, 2025 (UTC-6)ENDED
Cochrane
Join Noreen Benning and Giselle Gilliard for a beautiful healing afternoon in nature. Connect to your authentic self, hear and feel their voice, remember who you truly are and what you wish to do. Your authentic self is who you were fully when you were born. Psychologists say that by the time we are 3 years old our authentic self is usually gone due to fitting in to our family. Remembering your authentic self makes the heart happy. Your authentic self helps you to make decisions, knows what you love, is kind and unconditionally loving, wise and here to help you.
You will enjoy a sound meditation and Authentic Self constellation guided by Noreen and then a beautiful Breathwork journey with Giselle and Noreen supporting. In the constellation there will be groups of 4 people with someone to represent your authentic self, someone to represent you and someone to represent a witness. You will be guided through a healing process. Everything will be a suggestion. After the process we will enjoy the Breathwork journey to help process and connect to your authentic self.
Meet yourself in new ways within Breathwork. This is an opportunity to engage the incredible clarifying and healing power of your primary life force, breath. Explore the energetic continuum of your body, beliefs, emotions, and non-physical realms. Detoxify, rejuvenate, energize, release, express, integrate, clarify, and heal.
Nūma Breathwork is a transformational synthesis of conscious connected breathwork, somatic explorations and sound healing, an inquiry that supports you in clearing energy within the physical, mental, emotional, and energetic bodies. This dynamic practice can catalyze spontaneous insights and non-ordinary states of consciousness. It is an insightful dive into the continuum of human experience and a potent portal into the numinous.
** No previous experience is required.

Tanzanian Adventure Presentation
I recently returned from 3 weeks in Tanzania, which was a truly amazing time that I would like to share. I went with six friends to a small ( 16 people) Safari Lodge that is owned by a Canadian couple who are also dedicated to improving the life of Tanzanians in the surrounding area. In the last few years they have constructed a 7 km pipeline to bring in running water to the local village. In addition, within their property they have constructed a Health Care Centre for the village staffed with a doctor and nurse who can now offer child immunizations, medical testing and maternity care. Work is continuing on expanding these facilities.
Because of their great contacts with the local people and the people who work for them, they are able to offer very unique and personal tours. These included a tour of the health care centre, a walk to the nearest village, a visit to the local school with 97 pupils to a class, a plantation on the slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro growing bananas, coffee and vanilla, a visit to a Maasai village and much more. So we started to get an understanding and appreciation of their lives and culture.
And of course, there was also the Safari. Again it was organized by the Lodge and one of the staff was our driver and guide. He was from the Maasai tribe and knew every animal and bird and how they lived. This part was indescribable. Travelling across the Serengeti plain, every day was a surprise, never knowing what we would see next. I expected to see animals but not the quantity and variety. We stayed in tented camps with no fencing. So no wandering around once it was dark. One morning we discovered a pride of 12 lions asleep only 100 metres from the tents.
If this has wetted your appetite, come and join me for a slide show and discussion.
A
bout the Artist / Presenter:
Living in Cochrane, so close to the mountains, I love to cross-country ski in winter, hike in the summer and enjoy taking photographs of my favourite western Canadian locations and wildlife, including birds. A few years ago I had a truly amazing and inspiring experience spending six days in Churchill, Manitoba, photographing Polar Bears and Red Foxes. Earlier this year, in mid February, I had the opportunity to spend three weeks in Tanzania, including nine days on Safari. It turned out to be the most amazing experience of my life. So the challenge is to capture and communicate the awe I feel when seeing these animals, or any wildlife, in the wild and close up
I also have a passion for history and the art, architecture, beautiful dramatic scenery and culture of Western Civilization which takes me frequently to Europe for travel and exploration. My objective is to make the viewer want to visit the same places and and undertake their own exploration. With all my travel photography I try to make the picture unique, by leaving a question in the viewer’s mind, for example - ‘What is at the end of the stairs?’
Wherever I am, I find having a camera in my hand gives me a greater appreciation and in-sight into what I am observing. I hope that through seeing my photographs, others may be inspired to appreciate, value and care for the amazing world around us. I find this greater awareness also compliments my other interest of teaching Yoga and Meditation. You can see more of my pictures at
