Featured Events in Kurume in August, 2025 (July Updated)

The Kurume City fireworks display began in 1650 (the third year of the Keian era) to celebrate the completion of the Suitengu Shrine, and has a history of over 350 years. There are five venues for watching the games: Kyomachi Venue, Sasayama Venue, Komorino Venue, Nagatoishi Venue, and Miyakiki Venue. Fireworks are launched from across the Kyomachi and Sasayama venues.

The three hottest and most fiery days of midsummer in Kurume. With everyone's support and cooperation, the Kurume Water Festival will usher in its 54th year. This year's festival will kick off with the Children's Taiko Festival (Kurume City Plaza Auditorium) on July 20, followed by the pre-festival on August 3 and the main festival on August 4. It will be a grand event that will fascinate everyone.

From August 1 to August 31, lanterns are lit on both sides of the 131 stone steps. Pray for the peace of God, the safety of devotees, and the prosperity of business. The sight of lanterns floating in the pitch darkness is wonderful. The night view from the Kara Taisha Observation Deck is also spectacular.

There will be special live performances at the Japanese Garden, a wind chime photo spot and a summer night market (Children's Marche & Fair Day)
