Join Louise Fazackerley in a creative writing workshop inspired by the underdogs and unsung heroes of the British woodland. This friendly and accessible workshop will include reading some beautiful poetry and beginning to craft our own stories or poems.
Louise has toured her poetry with John Cooper Clarke and you may have seen and heard her in The Guardian/ BBC Breakfast/ Radio 4 Women's Hours/ Radio 3. Published poetry collections include The Lolitas and The Uniform Factory (Verve Poetry Press) Bird St. (The Secret Writers Club) and ‘The Pleasure Dome’ (Burning Eye)
Made possible with support from Healthy Arts and The National Lottery Heritage Fund, thanks to National Lottery players.
This workshop takes place on the first floor of the Stables Courtyard, in the Classroom. There is a lift to the first floor, accessible toilets on the ground floor and accessible parking.
The workshop is aimed at adults but is suitable for ages 14+ whether you are a beginner or a more experienced writer.

Folk Evening with Tom Kitching
Author and musician Tom Kitching presents his new book and album, 'Where There's Brass', with a special storytelling and music concert show. Documenting six months living in the London waterways community, making the long journey across England from Manchester on a traditional narrowboat built in 1937, 'Where There's Brass' tells the story of the contemporary London waterways; a floating slum at worst, a bohemian, alternative, vibrant community at best.
Ticket price includes alcoholic or soft drink before and during the event.

Discover the wild and cultivated plant around High hall and the fascinating stories, mythology and folklore surrounding them. On our seasonal foraging walks we will get to grips with some of these plants, some of them edible, some poisonous. You will learn how to identify them, learn about their fascinating ecology, how they fit in the landscape and their edible and medicinal uses. Where possible we will get hands on with the plants and even try some in the field; this is a great way to learn more about the plants around the estate.

A programme of short films curated by Natasha Hawthornthwaite of Wigan-based organisation Northern Heart Films. This special selection showcases locally produced shorts exploring the festival’s theme of 'Everyday Creativity’. Featuring stories that not only highlight creative subjects but also reflect imaginative and original approaches to filmmaking itself.
Short films line-up will be announced soon! Which will include an introduction by one of the filmmakers.
About
Natasha Hawthornthwaite
Natasha Hawthornthwaite is an award-winning Director/Producer and Co-Founder of Northern Heart Films which won the BBC Small Indie fund in 2024. Natasha was recognised as 'Creative of the Year' at the 2024 Manchester Young Talent Awards, and her recent work includes producing 'Rockall' with Oscar-winning Slick Films, directing 'Finding 'Appiness' (BFI Doc Society) and 'Joy Uncensored.' Her films have screened at BAFTA and BIFA qualifying festivals and she regularly speaks at events like the BFI Film Festival.
Natasha also mentors under-represented filmmakers through Creative UK's Screen Launchpad programme and is currently developing original documentaries with Northern Heart Films, supported by the BBC Small Indie Fund.
About Northern Heart Films
Northern Heart is a powerhouse of a film company based in Wigan, which was supported by the BBC Small Indie Fund 2024. Since 2017, the Northern duo Natasha Hawthornthwaite and Scott Bradley have been building a reputation for telling northern stories with heart. This small but mighty company has earned recognition for celebrating people and places across the North and supporting regional working-class talent.
Northern Heart is developing a slate of original productions for broadcasters and streaming platforms while also expanding its talent development programmes to nurture new working-class voices.

Short Films Night will take place in The Holding Cell at The Bailiff Bar, The Old Courts. The address is: The Bailiff Bar, King St W, Wigan, WN1 1NG.
The Bailiff Bar is Entrance 1 at The Old Courts.
Accessibility
There is a ramp which allows wheelchair users to enter the venue. Please let us know in advance if you need access to the ramp as we have to make the venue staff aware. Please email hello@everydaywigan.org.uk to organise this with us!
