Alan Bissett: The Moira Trilogy | The Corran Halls
Apr 4, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Oban
The Moira Trilogy Written and performed by Alan Bissett Since 2009, Alan Bissett’s ‘one-woman show’ The Moira Monologues, about Moira Bell – single mother, cleaner and Falkirk’s Hardest Woman – has been leaving audiences all over Scotland weak with laughter and garnering rave reviews. Alan continued Moira’s story with More Moira Monologues in 2017, which won a Fringe First and was shortlisted for Best New Play at the Critics Awards’ for Theatre in Scotland (CATS), then 2022’s Moira in Lockdown. Both were just as acclaimed by critics and audiences as the original. Now, for the first time, Alan will be touring all three shows as a ‘one-nighter’, giving audiences the chance to experience Moira’s hilarious journey in a single sitting. Make sure to get your tickets for this unique and thrilling theatrical event, about the woman who Joyce McMillan (Scotsman) called ‘the most charismatic character to appear on a Scottish stage in a decade.’ Part 1 – The Moira Monologues Part 2 – More Moira Monologues Part 3 – Moira in Lockdown ‘A near-perfect series of monologues, both howlingly funny and unnervingly sharp and poetic.’ The Scotsman ***** ‘Such a riot my ears popped a couple of times from the row behind me shouting with laughter.’ The National ***** ‘Heart-stoppingly funny, and heart-warming, Bissett has created nothing less than storytelling perfection.’ The Quintessential Review ***** ‘Welcome back, Moira. We missed you.’ Broadway Baby ***** ‘ Bissett writes with eagle-eyed vim and not a word is wasted.’ The Independent **** ‘Great hilarity, simple truths and some profound moments too. It’s no wonder Moira has such a loyal following.’ The List **** ‘Moira Bell is a legend. A hilarious, but subtly smart work that takes society slowly apart’ The Skinny **** ‘Keenly felt, dryly observed and hysterically funny.’ British Theatre Guide **** Directed by Sacha Kyle Running time: 3 ½ hours (including two intervals)

Jenn Butterworth and Laura-Beth Salter | Kilmelford & Kilniver Village Hall
Apr 26, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Oban
Jenn Butterworth and Laura-Beth Salter ...fresh, imaginative arrangements, displaying instrumental finesse and near-uncanny mutual attunement. Jenn and Laura-Beth are well a established force on the UK folk scene. They were brought together in the close knit and progressive Glasgow folk community spending a lot of time jamming an eclectic mix of folk and traditional music from around the globe, particularly from the UK, scadianavia and America. Their rhythms lock tightly and their voices blend so closely it is often hard to tell them apart. Both Jenn and Laura-Beth are in great demand as accompanists and collaborators and feature in the five strong female powerhouse that is The Kinnaris Quintet.
