What is Forest Bathing Forest bathing is a practice that supports health and wellness through guided immersion in forests and other environments to promote the well-being of both people and the land. It is inspired by Shinrin-yoku, the Japanese practice of “Forest Bathing.” where people spend time in forested areas to enhance health, wellness, and happiness. On Forest bathing walks, participants are guided through a clearly defined sequence of invitations to slow down, allow the senses to open, and experience the environment to deepen the reciprocal relationship between people and the forest. This supports the wholeness and well-being of both. Weather This event will be held in most weather conditions. If the event must be canceled due to inclimate weather we will notify you as soon as possible via email and refund all tickets.   Refund Policy · All class ticket sales are considered a donation to Fox Haven and help us to fulfill our mission. The event aims to: align networks around common priorities and connections; influence funders, legislators, and investors by supporting and centering the voices of impacted communities and people working on the ground; build common understanding around the intersectionality of racial, climate, economic, and food justice within Maine’s food system**; inspire, energize, and support participants to work together and implement actions catalyzed at the event (and beyond); and more! *Convergence Community People from across Maine, across sectors, across generations, and from various backgrounds who have interest in learning from and sharing varying perspectives to co-create a just and resilient food system in Maine. It is made up of efforts to protect our waters, land and soils and other climate change mitigation work; it includes transportation systems so people can access work, food stores, and healthcare centers; it encompasses systems that influence wages and efforts to pay all workers a thriving wage; it includes school systems and other food service institutions. Emergency food programs are part of Maine’s food system, as well as social support services such as EBT and housing assistance. Policy and investments, access to training and education that relate to all of the above also play a major role in the health of our Maine food system. Culture and the wellbeing of individuals and communities are crucial to a thriving food system and all parts of the Maine food web can be looked at with a lens that investigates how race, gender, age, and socioeconomics influences equity in the system. Accessibility: There will be some handicap accessible parking spaces near the Main Lodge and golf carts for those who park further away. Trails on the campus are ADA accessible! The life-changing moment came in 1994 when she switched from organizing in communities fighting for environmental justice to organizing fishing communities. From the start, she recognized the similarities between family farmers’ fight for a more just and ecologically responsible land-based food system and that of community-based fishermen fighting to fix the broken sea-based food system. She has been serving as NAMA's coordinating director since 2008. One of the first things NAMA did after Niaz took the helm was to join the National Family Farm Coalition as its first non-farming member. The two organizations entered into an innovative shared-leadership model on May 1, 2018, putting Niaz in the new role of serving the work of both organizations and further cementing the relationship and interdependence between land and sea.
