Chartley Moss Summer walk Come join us for a delightful summer walk at Chartley Moss National Nature Reserve and learn about the plants and animals that make their home in this hostile environment. We also hope to spot some late flying white-faced darter dragonflies by the pools. Directions to the meeting point will be sent with your email ticket. The walk is on predominatelyflat ground, although access to the moss is via a steep zig-zag path down the side of an old railway embankment. The path on the moss is very uneven with tussocky grasses, brambles and is very soft in some areas. There are some areas of log path, which may be slippy and uneven. At War Horse Forge, veterans, active duty military, and first responders learn blacksmithing skills using traditional techniques. Our programs are located on our farm in Stafford, Virginia. In this class, you will forge a fire poker with a twist on the handle and a hook to hang it from. Or choose to make a marshmallow roasting stick for creating smores. The class is limited to12 people. Each attendee needs to register individually and must be at least 18 years old. The only fee is $25 to register for the class. Upon completion of the class, you can choose to have your $25 refunded (minus Eventbrite fees)or donate it to War Horse Forge. We hope this nominal (and refundable) fee will ensure those who sign-up for a class do show up as we often have waitlists. If this fee is a hardship, please let us know (540/538-7453). Find ways to use nature's paintbox to create lovely artwork. We'll go foraging for some natural colours, then we will use what we find to make our own artwork to take away. Activities will include making and using natural paint, paint colour matching and making bookmarks. Come and discover what creatures call the Wolseley Centre home. Together using different methods and equipment we will explore the site to find out who lurks beneath the depths of the pond and who is hiding under the log piles! These two hour long activities give you and your children the chance to explore the great outdoors, with our Wildchild Team at hand to help you along the way. All our activities take place outdoors therefore please dress for the weather. Meet us in front of the Learning Hub which is located at the bottom hill in front of the car park. From there we will begin minibeast hunting before moving to the lakes to pond dip. Once a month join us at The Wolseley Centre for a special walk, talk or activity especially for adults. This May, join us for an afternoon stroll around The Wolseley Centre where our experienced guide will help you uncover the wonderful world of wildflowers at Wolseley. Our guide will talk you through ID tips and explore the reserve uncovering a world of wonder.The walk will end in the Kingfisher Cafe where attendees will be able to tuck into a refreshing hot drink, which is included within the ticket price .* *Please let the cafe know of any dietary requirements upon ordering your drink on the day We walk whatever the weather so please make sure you are dressed suitably for the outdoors. Nature Tots is an indoor and outdoor adult and toddler group run by Staffordshire Wildlife trust. Each week has a different theme; we could be bug hunting, marvelling at magic or exploring a story. All activities are designed to encourage your toddler’s engagement with nature. So why not join us for crafts, trails and games. This week our theme is Really Wild. To celebrate the start of 30 days wild lets have a go at some Really Wild activities!  This activity takes place in our Learning Hub building as well as the surrounding outside areas. We play whatever the weather so please make sure your little ones and yourself are dressed suitably. Our Learning Hub is situated at the bottom of the hill in front of the car park. If you are not sure pop into reception and they will point you in the right direction. From 1st April 2024, our ticket prices will increase slightly to accommodate Eventbrite's small booking fee on top of the ticket cost, for all our payable events. This is to ensure we receive the full payment from each ticket, and can continue doing the work we do.
