OSC: Creative Show & Tell hosted by Sharon James | The Old School House Boscombe
May 28, 2025 (UTC+0)
Gladstone
Wednesday 28th May, 6pm-8pm, hosted by local artist Sharon James! Sharon is a multidisciplinary artist. Currently her main focus is painting. Her work also includes printmaking, drawing and digital collage. She visually investigates her experiences as a black, gay mother of three. Documenting the ‘white noise’ of motherhood. The things that we see so often, that we forget to marvel in their extraordinariness. Her work also explores her cultural heritage, queer identity and current events. Join us for this small group session, sharing your own work, or simply discovering the work of others. Feel empowered with supportive and insightful feedback. Creatives of all ages and stages welcome. Expect an inspiring evening of chat, with a cuppa. OSC: Show & Tell Nights Would you love some useful, constructive feedback on your work, offered by other creatives? Join us at TOSH on a Wednesday evening for our monthly Show & Tell Nights, formed as part of our new artist development programme, Open School Creative (OSC). Share your creative work, ideas or concepts in one of our five informal sharing slots (5 mins sharing in whatever form suits you!), or simply come along to discover new work and offer your thoughts in a safe, supportive space - alongside those from our rotating artist specialists. What to share? You might share a current project, or a past one that you'd like to learn from. You might tell us about your creative journey so far, looking for advice on what to do next. You could show your artwork, songs, songwriting, creative writing, a social media campaign idea, graphic design, interior design, illustration, storyboards, film, photography, fine art, portfolio, website design, social media, your branding and logos, your creative business idea, event / workshop ideas, ceramics, choreography, performance, craft, millinery, jewellery, costume, product design, animation, a commission in progress, creative research work... and more! What ticket type do I need? Choose a 'Share Work' ticket if you'd like to have some space to share with us, or an 'Audience' ticket if you'd rather just see what it's all about and offer some thoughts if you'd like to. Our Donation tickets support us to keep providing creative opportunities to the community, and our Community tickets support you when you need it most. We want our sessions to be accessible for all. If you would like a free Community ticket for this event, please drop us an email to contact@toshspace.co.uk for the ticket code. Advice Meet-Up (In Person) Access BEAF 2025 | The Old School House
May 7, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Gladstone
Background on Access BEAF: Access BEAF is a strand of our work at BEAF Arts that aims to support artists who may have experienced barriers in accessing and working in the art world. Through funding from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Access BEAF started by working with global majority creatives in the area through a pilot artist residents programme launched in 2024. Since the pilot ended, we have continued the support and have now engaged a coordinator, Sharon James, who was one of the first resident artists to continue to develop the programme and activities. More details can be found on our website. We are now expanding our Access BEAF programme and are inviting applications from neurodivergent and disabled creatives living or working in Dorset and Hampshire to be part of this year’s residency, mentoring and networking programme. Access BEAF: Supporting Neurodivergent and Disabled Artists 2025 What is the focus of the programme? The programme will offer time and space for neurodivergent and disabled artists to come together, reflect on current practices and your work, and foster peer-learning. The Access BEAF programme is split into four parts: Part 1: Intro 4-5 July at our base in Boscombe, TOSH and Boscombe Arts Depot (BAD) Part 2: Residency 25-26 Sept at SPUD, New Forest Part 3: Gathering and professional development support 17 Oct at TOSH Part 4: Mentoring over the next 6 months I am not sure if I should apply, where can I find out more information? If you want to find out a bit more before applying or to see if you think it's right for you, join us at TOSH on Wednesday 7 May at 7pm for an informal meet-up. We will also be holding an online support session on Friday 9 May at 11am, for people that cannot make Wednesday 7 May or who cannot get to TOSH. Getting to us at TOSH: If you are coming by foot or by bus, take the M2 bus and get off near Boscanova if coming from Southbourne, or the stop after Aldi if coming from Poole and Bournemouth.
