There will be time for questions after both talks. Coin hoards and Roman Lincolnshire Dr Eleanor Ghey Curator: Hoards, Department of Money and Medals, The British Museum Recent years have seen an increase in the reporting of finds of Iron Age and Roman coin hoards from Lincolnshire. What can these tell us about the society and economy of Roman period Lincolnshire? The talk will review the evidence from recent discoveries, including the large late-third-century coin hoard from Rauceby, as well as some older finds that have been subject to new research. Norton Disney, the site that keeps on giving! Richard Parker, Secretary, Norton Disney History and Archaeology Group. Norton Disney's Roman history has been known about since the time of William Stukeley. In 1933, Norton Disney attracted national attention with the discovery of its Roman villa. In 1989, metal detectorists found a figurine of a Roman rider god, now in the British Museum. In 2023, the Norton Disney History and Archaeology Group confirmed a new Roman settlement 700m from the villa, with the dig that year culminating in the discovery of an extremely fine example of a Gallo-Roman dodecahedron which featured on BBC's "Digging for Britain".
