Colchester - Powered Up Business Networking - May 2025 | Three Wise Monkeys

May 6, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Colchester
Cultural Experiences
Please note - for May only - our event is the first Tuesday of the month! Powered Up Business Networking (PUBNetworking) is an “out of hours” networking event that does away with the usual networking formalities. You’ll get to learn about the people behind the business - without a torrent of sales pitches …and bland tea and coffee. And you’ll get to have a lot of laughs whilst you’re at it! As you know, the best business connections are the people you want to spend time with outside of work. They’re the people you can trust, and whose company you enjoy. PUBNetworking is the place to find them. We have a loose structure, relaxed atmosphere and the opportunity to learn from other business experts - with no strings attached. Just bring yourself, your e-ticket and your best smile and you’re good to go. Each event has four objectives… Meet awesome people We have a wide range of business people that attend. From start-ups to those with 30 years experience - across a wide range of industries. Everyone that attends is under no obligation to attend (we have no memberships, or contracts) so they’re there purely to meet people like you. Build long-lasting relationships We believe in a 'people buy from people' philosophy. In a relaxed environment, everyone feels comfortable and the connections you make are less forced, and more genuine. You’ll get to know each person in more detail - and have a good time doing so. Learn things without pitches Each event is productive and valuable. And we want everyone to walk away having learned something new. Our speakers offer genuine value, without sneaky sales pitches. We want you to take what you learn and use it to benefit your business. Have fun And above all, we want you to have fun. Sometimes that’s easier with a drink in your hand (it also makes the terrible jokes slightly more tolerable…). Our networking events are all about you, your passions and your business success. What’s happening this month? For this meeting, our speaker is PUBNetworking founder and LinkedIn expert, Milo Dunne who will be giving the talk "How To Kill It On LinkedIn." This talk will cover lots of things LinkedIn. From making your profile stand out, to finding your ideal clients to starting conversations with them. Location. Held at The Three Wise Monkeys, we have their downstairs Speakeasy Bar all to ourselves. And a great selection of drinks too! Plan for the night: 7.30 - Meet, greet & network. Your chance to sign in, grab a drink and speak to anyone you’d like. 7.50 - Introduction from Damian. 7.55 - Your chance to tell the room about yourself with a PUBNetworking difference… 8.20 - 1-2-1 with someone you like. 8.35 - Grab a drink/have a break. 8.50 - Presentation from Milo. 9.15 - Close the meeting and optional further networking. 9.30 - End/move downstairs into The Three Wise Monkeys to have a further drink should you wish. Important: Due to the nature of the venue, and room size, there are a limited number of spaces available. If you’d like to come along and enjoy a great evening of laughs, laid-back networking and actionable business help, reserve your space with an e-ticket now. Tickets cost: £14.77 (And there’s probably no better way to spend it!) See you there! Information Source: Powered Up Business Networking | eventbrite

Essex Estuaries - The River Colne from Hythe to Wivenhoe | Hythe Station Road

May 10, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Colchester
Cultural Experiences
The River Colne runs through Colchester, emptying into the Blackwater at Brightlingsea and Mersea Island. Starting at Hythe we go south past an industrial area on one side of the river, and on the other new riverside housing and the plate-glass University of Essex. A long stretch of the path passes through marsh, woods and the village of Rowhedge. At Wivenhoe we stop to rest at a pub and then continue along the quay, past the Colne Flood Barrier into marshland again and what is now the Colne Estuary. Turning back, we explore Wivenhoe streets on the way to the station. You’ll hear about the history of the port of Colchester, which moved from Hythe to Wivenhoe in the 17th century and ended with the coming of the railway. Rowhedge and Wivenhoe were smuggling and fishing villages known for oysters and scallops. You’ll see how the whole river and estuary area has adapted, how architecture has changed and who lives here now. Bohemian, artist, music and gay history are represented, as well as four legends of beasts: wyvern, serpent, black dog and stranded whale. The path is hard-packed, but mud is always possible in these marshes. A bit over 4 miles long, the walk takes about 3 hours beginning at Hythe Station (Colchester) and ending at Wivenhoe Station. Journeys between Wivenhoe and London Liverpool Street take 1¼ hours or less. Below see your hosts, Rob Smith and Laura Agustín, in a Maldon pub after a recce. Family Events
Our Wilder Holiday Club includes themed, inspiring activities led by our team of experts. There will be plenty of opportunities for nature discovery, learning new skills, and following your interests with lots of time for free play! You can take part in everything from fire lighting to den building, natural crafts to tool use, and pond dipping to animal tracking, our holiday club has it all. Important Information Wilder Holiday Club is for children aged 5 to 11 and will run at sites across the county between Tuesday 27 May and Friday 30 May. Activities will vary by site. Our Wilder Holiday Club runs from 9am to 3pm. All our activities take place outdoors and children will need to come dressed for the weather. We recommend layers that can get mucky including long sleeves and trousers to protect against scratches and stings, waterproofs and boots, trainers or wellies. Sandals and open-toed shoes are not permitted. In hot and sunny weather we also recommend sun hats and sun cream. Please note that toilets may be a 5-10 minute walk depending on each site.  Your child will require a snack, water, and a packed lunch. We are nut-free so please do not include any items containing nuts. All rubbish will need to be returned home with your child. Some sites may have a campfire and toasting suggestions will be sent on booking. We need a completed consent form for each child attending Wilder Holiday Club. Without this, your child will not be able to attend. Child Consent Form Meeting point: Meet by the picnic benches outside the main building.
