Since the Edo period, the fireworks display of the Toyohashi Gion Festival has been known as the "Sanshu Yoshida Fireworks Festival". It is said that the hand tube fireworks originated from Yoshida Shrine. The "hand tube fireworks" in Toyohashi originated in the Warring States Period of Japan, when the daimyo of Yoshida Castle offered hand tube fireworks to the gods of Yoshida Shrine, thus opening the prelude to the tradition. This is not only a ceremony to pray for a good harvest and health, but also a test for young people to exercise their courage. With a thunderous roar, orange sparks shot more than 10 meters into the air, which was both thrilling and dazzling.
