BottleRock AfterDark Powered by Marriott Bonvoy® and American Express Presents G. Love & Donavon Frankenreiter at The Garden by Tannery Bend Beerworks! ABOUT G. Love G. Love & Special Sauce is an American Hip-Hop Blues band known for its unique fusion of hip-hop, blues, funk, and soul. Formed in 1993 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the band originally featured Garrett Dutton, aka G. Love, as the lead vocalist and guitarist, Jeffrey Clemens on drums, and Jim Prescott on bass. The trio quickly gained attention for their laid-back, groovy style and G. Love's unique vocal delivery, blending rap-like spoken word with bluesy singing. Their debut self-titled album, G. Love & Special Sauce , was released in 1994 on Epic Records and included the hit single "Cold Beverage," which became popular on alternative radio stations and MTV, solidifying their presence in the music scene. The band's style has been described as a mix of "slacker blues" and "alternative hip-hop," as they frequently incorporate elements of 90s hip-hop beats with classic blues rhythms. Over the years, G. Love & Special Sauce has released numerous albums, including Coast to Coast Motel (1995), Yeah, It's That Easy (1997), The Electric Mile (2001) and the GRAMMY nominated The Juice (2020). Their sound evolved to include more soul, R&B, and rock influences, though they retained their laid-back vibe and clever lyrical play. Their 2014 album Sugar saw a reunion of the original lineup after several years, and they continued to tour and produce music with a loyal fan base. Known for their energetic live performances, G. Love & Special Sauce has played at festivals like Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza. Garrett Dutton also frequently collaborates with other artists, including Jack Johnson, with whom he shares a similar vibe, and has released solo projects that dive deeper into his blues influences. G. Love & Special Sauce remains a beloved name in the music scene, blending genres in a way that feels fresh and authentic. Author Event: Camshaft 10 by Chad McComber | Napa Bookmine

May 8, 2025 (UTC-7)ENDED
Napa
Cultural Experiences
Join us for a special event with Chad McComber in conversation with Annie Ruygt, author of Camshaft 10. This event is free, but we appreciate your RSVP below so we can plan for your attendance. ABOUT THE BOOK Camshaft 10 is a collection of short stories, poems and comedy in a beautifully hard bound book. It is the 10 issue of Camshaft, an independently published zine that has been available in the underground of the Bay Area since 2003. Camshaft has delivered stories of strangeness, journals of personal memory and poetry. The ongoing horror serial, “The Well” has been published throughout. This latest edition of Camshaft has been beautifully designed by Annie Ruygt Bernard (another Napa native) and the cover is especially striking. There are six stories contained within, two poems and one comedic piece. The stories are widely ranging in scope and theme, from science fiction to familial introspection to an imagined encyclopedic entry of a failed west coast record company of the 1920s. In “The Shitstorm,” we meet a brilliant inventor who finds redemption by curing the human race of relieving themselves only to meet disastrous consequences. In “The Friendly Curse,” a young woman discovers a curse has been put on her family for the last three generations and she must travel to a secret cult in Ullville, California to uncover the mystery of her great-great grandmother’s past. And if you think that today’s politics are unapologetically disgusting, “Colonel Gerbenpepper’s Fancy Speech” reminds the reader of the gilded age’s most corrupt Senator, Colonel Gerbenpepper. Camshaft 10 is a compilation unlike any other, leaving you to laugh, to shudder and to have much to contemplate upon completion. " I first encountered CAMshaft years ago in its original skin as a handmade indie zine. There was something raw and almost dangerous about the high-contrast Xeroxed pages and stapled binding holding an eclectic mix of satire and prose within its crooked pages. With the publication of CAMshaft 10, Editor in Chief Chad McComber has chosen to leave the DIY esthetic behind at the Kinkos, releasing instead a stunning hardcover novella length tome in celebration of his tenth issue. While the production value has increased dramatically, I was thrilled to discover that the unpredictable punk-rock aesthetic of those early issues has remained intact. The book opens with a note from the editor followed by a satirical “letters” section that sets the stage for serious writing that doesn't take itself too seriously. The rest of the book is a series of short stories and humor sketches penned by McComber, including a longer piece in the middle called The Friendly Curse. A continuation of the serialized fiction, The Well, which has its 10th installment in this book, is contained. In closing, CAMshaft may have grown up and put on some fancy clothes with this latest installment, but at its heart, it will always be that immature little scamp with staples in its spine, sling-shotting rocks at the conventional norms of prose and humor. " - Ricardo Zegri - Writer and Musician, winner of the 2025 Emerging Writer Award for Short Story from the Key West Literary Seminar ABOUT THE AUTHOR Chad McComber grew up in Napa, California and spent his early years reading, creating comic strips, making his own books and acting in local theater. Writing has always been a passion, and Chad has written many, many stories, theater pieces and songs. His sketch comedy troupe, "Single Entendre" played in San Francisco from 2003 to 2009 and he wrote and performed many shows for the San Francisco Fringe Festival, including "Ticonderoga" a comedic American revolution play about Henry Knox's delivery of the guns to Boston from Fort Ticonderoga, the first victory in the war for independence. Since 2003, McComber has been publishing his zine, "Camshaft," which has culminated in the release of Camshaft 10. His day job is a winemaker, which is an art in and of itself. ABOUT THE IN CONVERSATIONS PARTNER Annie Ruygt is an author and illustrator based in Northern California. She currently makes art for fly.io and illustrates books for adults and children. She co-founded the Spacious Tarot, and popular indie deck, and is working on an early-reader chapter book. She is known for her strange and sweet characters and loves working with pencil, pen, and ink. When she's not drawing, she likes to play music, sing with her kids, and wander outside. annieruygtillustration.com Information Source: Napa Bookmine | eventbrite

Author Event: The Wines of California by Elaine Chukan Brown | DECANT Napa Bottle Shop & Bar

May 14, 2025 (UTC-7)ENDED
Napa
Cultural Experiences
Join us for a special event with Elaine Chukan Brown, author of The Wines of California . This event is free, but we appreciate your RSVP below so we can plan for your attendance. ABOUT THE BOOK California has always been a land of opportunity and innovation, with names and fortunes made, from the gold rush to Silicon Valley. It also changed the face of wine, introducing old varieties to new locations and winemaking methods. It is thanks to California that even casual wine drinkers are familiar with grapes such as Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, previously obscured behind the names of Old World appellations: California helped democratize wine. At the same time, thanks to Robert Parker’s championing of the region’s wines, it also became home to cult labels such as Harlan Estate and Screaming Eagle, with exclusive mailing lists and prices to match. In The Wines of California, E laine Chukan Brown takes an in-depth look at the forces that made, moved and continue to shape California wine. Part 1 looks at the history, beginning by explaining the instrumental part played by Indigenous Peoples in the early days of wine in the state. The influence of national and global forces, such as Prohibition, World War II and the 1980s health and fitness boom is explored and we see how immigrant farmworkers and environmental protest both changed how wine is grown today. In Part 2 Brown guides readers through the regions, introducing wine producers throughout California’s 154 viticultural areas (AVAs) and showing that there are exciting wines being grown beyond the familiar destinations of Napa and Sonoma. In Part 3 Brown focuses their attention on the future, looking at the combined issues of evolving markets and climate change and assessing how California might innovate its way through the challenges posed. The three parts form a cohesive whole, offering a wine book with a difference, that considers wine through the lens of social history. Supported by colour maps and photographs, it is an indispensable resource for all those seeking a complete picture of California wine. " The Wines of California is an instant classic, moving beyond the standard recounting of grape varietals and winemaking trends. Elaine’s book speaks in depth to California history, telling a complete (and often unknown) story of the state of California wine. " - Margot Mazur, The Fizz " Elaine delivers a powerful, deeply researched take on the history of California wine—connecting the evolution of wine in the Golden State to larger patterns in American history, global politics, and cultural change. With her trademark no-nonsense honesty, Elaine has written what might be called a tough-love letter to California wine—celebrating its innovation, leadership, and resilience while challenging the industry to reckon with its past and navigate the future. " - The Winemakers Podcast ABOUT THE AUTHOR Elaine Chukan Brown is an award-winning writer, speaker, and global wine educator, as well as a consultant on mentorship and diversity programs worldwide. Brown reviews Napa Valley wine and wines of northeastern Spain for Wine Enthusiast. Previously, they served as the Executive Editor US for JancisRobinson.com, a columnist for Decanter, and a contributing writer to Wine & Spirits. They contributed to both the fourth and fifth editions of The Oxford Companion to Wine, the eighth and upcoming ninth editions of the World Atlas of Wine, and the compilations On Burgundy and On California from Académie du Vin Library. Indigenous (Inupiaq and Unangan-Sugpiaq) from what is now Alaska, Brown specializes in American wine and has dedicated their career to the intersection of sustainability, climate action, and reducing gatekeeping in the wine industry. Brown has served as a cultural advisor and diversity consultant for book projects, university courses, organizations, events, and television shows. They co-founded the Diversity in Wine Leadership Forum, serve as chair of judges for the 67 Pall Mall Global Wine Communicator Awards, and as a board member of the Wine Writer Symposium. Brown lives in Sonoma, California with their pet guinea pigs, rabbit, and Rosie bird. Information Source: Napa Bookmine | eventbrite
