No Worries Writing Workshops: Trust Your Obsessions with Anthony Sharwood How do I turn my great idea into a great book? Is my subject matter too niche? Is it too clichéd? Do I dare to trust my obsessions? This workshop will help you harness your authentic voice to tell the story only you can tell – whether it’s fiction or non-fiction. An award-winning journalist and author who has written everything from biographies to adventure stories to 60-second comedy monologues for TV, Anthony will help you find the confidence, format and framework to tell your story the way it deserves to be told. A long-time resident of Sydney’s Bayside area, Anthony Sharwood is a Walkley Award-winning journalist and the author of five non-fiction books including a recent trilogy of best-sellers set in the Australian High Country: From Snow to Ash, The Brumby Wars and Kosciuszko: The Incredible Life of the Man Behind the Mountain. Getting to the event This workshop will be hosted in the Sans Souci Library. Thank you for registering for our TMS Members Workshop –Leather Wrap Sketchbook/Travel Journal.Sally Conn Date: SATURDAY 3rd May - Time: 10am – 4pm Venue: Lions Club Hall, 8 Russell Drysdale St., East Gosford In this workshop we create a lay flat sketchbook and/or travel journal with a choice of leather, fabric or a hand dyed/painted paper cover, sewn onto the book using a decorative stitching technique. The book will be made from 300 gsm Canson paper that is suitable for watercolour, acrylic, pastels, oil crayons, charcoal, drawing and collage. The book block of 32 pages will be 193mm High and 148mm wide. In this workshop you will learn how to: · determine the grain of paper and the correct way to fold and tear paper to prepare the book's signatures, · create a sewing template for stitching, · measure, cut and assemble the signatures of the book · assemble the book and cover · develop creative and unique closures. Materials supplied. · 1 sheet of Canson 250gsm paper. (More can be purchased on the day if we have time to make a second book.) · Sewing needles · Thread · A selection of twines, ropes, ribbons and beads for closures. · Coloured paper for end papers. What you will need to bring with you. · A bone folder - available from Spotlight or online. There will be some available to share if needed. · An awl or a darning needle stuck into a cork for piercing holes. · A stiff upholstery fabric, a strong flexible paper or some leather of your choice for the cover. (I have made these books using eco dyed paper, shibori dyed paper, heavily gel plate printed paper and upholstery fabric as well as leather as the cover.) · These need to be at least 215mm high and 400mm wide. ·N.B. I will have some very lovely leather on the day if you wish to purchase some. The cost will be $15 payable on the day. · Your creative spirit. Please wear closed in shoes Bring your lunch.
