The Irish Country House: A New Vision | Old Museum Building
Sep 11, 2025 (UTC+1)
Belfast
Since the publication of Maria Edgeworth’s
Castle Rackrent
in 1800, the familiar image of the Irish country house has been one of dishevelment and decay. However, in recent decades an alternative vision has come to the fore: one of rescue, restoration and renewal. Historic houses across Ireland are being rediscovered and brought back to life as family homes. Join author and architectural historian Robert O’Byrne for an exploration of some of these properties and the stories of their decline and recovery.
Currently a doctoral student at Trinity College Dublin, Robert O’Byrne is a writer and lecturer specialising in the fine and decorative arts, and the author of more than a dozen books. A former Vice-President of the Irish Georgian Society, he is trustee of several charitable organisations including the Apollo Foundation. For fourteen years he wrote a monthly column for
Apollo
magazine, and he has also contributed to
The Burlington Magazine
and the
Irish Arts Review
. Since 2012 Robert has written an award-winning blog,
www.theirishaesthete.com
and last year he produced a collection of his own photographs:
The Irish Aesthete: Buildings of Ireland, Lost and Found
. His most recent book is
The Irish Country House: A New Vision

Playtime National Conference 2025, Northern Ireland | Orangefield Presbyterian Church
Sep 27, 2025 (UTC+1)
Belfast
Small but mighty!
The work that you do through your toddler group is vital. Though it might feel like your contribution is small, you not only provide a safe space for parents and their little ones to take time out and have fun, but also offer help, happiness and hope for all those who attend.
It might sometimes seem like your toddler group is undervalued, or that you put in a whole lot of effort but don’t have all that much to show for it. You might see just a few families a week, and feel it’s not enough, or perhaps you reach many but wonder if it has any spiritual significance.
The truth is that whatever the shape and size of your toddler group, when you sow into families you have a far-reaching impact on whole communities. God is doing so much beneath the surface that you might not see.
Join us at this year’s
Playtime
Conference
as we explore how God can do mighty things through that ‘small’ that we offer.
It’s not just toddlers who are small but mighty – your group is too!
