Musical Arts
We are delighted to present... AN EVENING WITH RED DIRT SKINNERS. "The Pink Floyd of Folk Music." That’s how Roots Music Canada describes the Red Dirt Skinners — and Music News Magazine agrees, noting “ an almost Floyd-like quality ” to their sound. Widely regarded as one of the most innovative acts to emerge from the UK in recent years, the Skinners' multi-award-winning music blurs genres and defies expectations. A Red Dirt Skinners show is built on powerful storytelling, unexpected turns, and a fearless creative spirit. If you enjoy music inspired by legends like Pink Floyd, Simon and Garfunkel, Supertramp, Queen, and David Bowie — but with its own unmistakable voice — you’ll love the Red Dirt Skinners. With male and female harmonies blending into a single, unforgettable voice, and Sarah’s soaring soprano saxophone lines, this duo delivers performances that are both refreshingly different and emotionally rich. A Red Dirt Skinners show is more than a concert — it’s a musical journey. Expect laugh-out-loud stories, thought-provoking lyrics, and songs that stay with you long after the final note. Rob and Sarah Skinner bring heart, humour, and exceptional musicianship to every performance. Don’t miss the Red Dirt Skinners — they’ll steal your heart. Please note- Tickets are for general admission/rush seating. If you require a particular seat (disability/birthday/special event) please visit reddirtskinners.com/FAQ for instructions. Doors will open at 6:30pm, show starts at 7pm For further information about Red Dirt Skinners concerts, please visit reddirtskinners.com/faq Information Source: Red Dirt Skinners | eventbrite

GEORGETOWN MEDITATION CLASS THURSDAYS 7 PM - 8:15PM in person Grow Through What you Go Through a 4-week series in May (May 8 – May 29) Hardship and suffering is something that we all experience. We do not like the painful feelings associated with hardship, but Buddha encourages us to respond to difficulties in a different way; we can learn to respond with patience. This has so many benefits including deepening and strengthening our experience of inner peace and our ability to develop love and compassion. In particular, through contemplation and meditation we can overcome the problem of anger, learning how to develop and maintain patience when faced with even the most difficult circumstances. Each class presents a new topic with new contemplations and meditations for our training in overcoming anger and developing patience. Topics include: What is patience? The benefits of patience A spiritual response to hardship Learning from our suffering More information at akbc.ca Everyone welcome. $15 a class. $48 4-class pass (series pass). Tickets and passes can also be purchased at the door at class time. No need to pre-register. Information Source: Avalokiteshvara Kadampa Buddhist Centre | eventbrite

GEORGETOWN MEDITATION CLASS THURSDAYS 7 PM - 8:15PM in person Refuge from the Storm - Developing Authentic Self-Confidence 4- week series in September Just as we seek shelter from outer storms —thunderstorms, hurricanes, and blizzards—we also need inner protection from the storms that arise in the mind: inner storms of worry, anxiety, fear, anger, and discouragement and so forth. In Buddhism, inner protection is known as ‘refuge’ – relying on Buddha’s wisdom to eradicate our fears. Through establishing refuge in our hearts, we are able to generate a self-confident peaceful mind that will carry us through the storms of life. In this series of classes, we will explore the teachings of Venerable Atisha, the revered Indian master who introduced Buddhism to Tibet over a thousand years ago. Also known as the ‘Refuge Lama’, Atisha offered profound and compassionate advice on how to soothe the inner storms that destroy our inner peace. His timeless wisdom remains as relevant today to modern people as it was centuries ago. Each class presents a new topic with new contemplations and meditations for finding deep and lasting inner peace. Topics include: Developing authentic self-confidence Guarding the mind with alertness Practicing with steadfastness and joy This course is based on the book How to Solve Our Human Problems , Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life , and Meaningful to Behold .
