Cultural Experiences
Join the Gowanus Dredgers for free, self-guided canoe trips on the Gowanus Canal. No experience required! Hop into a Gowanus Dredgers canoe and paddle at your own pace inside the protected Gowanus Canal. Enjoy discovering the canal’s unique mix of wildlife and urban waterway infrastructure, practice your paddling skills, or take a guided audio tour and learn more about the history, cleanup and revitalization of our favorite urban waterway. We'll outfit you with a life jacket (which must be worn at all times) and paddle, offer some basic instruction on how to paddle and safety tips on how to use a canoe, and help you set off on your own self-guided journey. Trips may be limited to 20 minutes if there’s a crowd — but usually we just expect you to return to the dock 15 min. prior to closing. Who can participate? Paddling is for everyone! Free walk-up canoeing is open to all ages. Groups, families, solo paddlers, and intrepid first dates are all welcome! Minors require a guardian's signature to participate, and all participants must sign a waiver What should I wear? Dress for the weather: wear sunscreen, hats, and bring a water bottle — and bring layers if there's a breeze! Close-toed shoes are recommended, and wear clothing you don’t mind potentially being splashed. Can I volunteer? Yes! Select a "Volunteer" ticket at check-out. All walk-up paddle events are 4 hours long. We have two volunteer shifts per scheduled event. The first runs from 30-minutes before the start of the program through the first two hours. The second shift begins at the middle of the program through 30 minutes after the end of the scheduled time. Information Source: Gowanus Dredgers Canoe Club | eventbrite

NYCxDESIGN Salon - Architectural Practice in Brooklyn | Brent Buck Architects

Brooklyn
Arts Fashion Design
An intimate salon hosted by Brent Buck Architects on running an emerging architecture studio in Brooklyn. What does it mean to run an emergent architecture studio in Brooklyn today? Join a candid conversation with local practitioners navigating one of the most visible and complicated design contexts in the world. Brooklyn is both a place and a brand, layered with history, shaped by constant development, and full of competing pressures. For small studios, practice here means balancing ambition with constraint. Tight sites, complex approvals, evolving client expectations, and a cultural identity that is constantly being redefined all play a role. This salon will explore how the borough shapes the way we work, from the projects we pursue to the values we bring to them. We will talk openly about the opportunities, the friction points, and the realities behind “brand Brooklyn,” including what resonates, what feels overplayed, and where there is room to push. Looking ahead, we will consider the next five to ten years. What role can small studios play in shaping Brooklyn’s future? How do we stay thoughtful, nimble, and relevant as the city continues to evolve? An informal, engaging discussion for those interested in practice, place, and the future of design in Brooklyn. Light refreshments will be served. Location Brent Buck Architects 601 Bergen Street Brooklyn, New York 11238 Agenda Doors: 6:45pm Salon Discussion: 7:00pm Reception: 8:00pm Be sure to explore the other Open Studio Salons in this series. Check out my offerings at https://carolineguilbert.as.me/ About the space: This class takes place in the Wellness Sanctuary, a Downtown Brooklyn grassroots loft space where art and wellness co-exist: Rather than a traditional yoga studio, this is an intimate, evolving environment designed for presence and real practice. Sessions are small, creating space to slow down, release pressure, and connect more deeply with yourself. This space tends to resonate with those seeking a more personal, grounded, less performance-oriented experience and a more authentic connection to their spiritual path. If you’re open to something simple, human, and intentional, you may find this space deeply supportive. See you there soon! Hari Om Tat Sat Information Source: Caroline Guilbert | eventbrite
