The Case-Study SOAP Note Clinical Hours is a chance for our clinical students to gain directed, online, clinical experience and hours. During each two-hour, online class, students are able to ask questions, form assessments and create herbal protocols in the format of a SOAP note template that we specifically use in our herbal clinics. These online cases are a role-played presentation of actual cases, but cases that are relatively simple. This process allows students to become more adept at working clinically with clients from start to finish of a mock clinical intake. After intake, students are able to team up if they wish, and have approximately 30 minutes to form an assessment and herbal protocol which they then turn in to be reviewed. During and after review and follow-up information, students have the opportunity to edit and finish their SOAP notes which they then turn in. Each Case Study SOAP note clinic is 2 hours of clinical intake, assessment, protocols, evaluations and usually some follow-up information and discussion as well. Students must attend for the full length of the online clinic and must turn in a finished SOAP note in order to get credit for the clinical hours. The prerequisite for this course is our Herbalism for Professionals introductory course (HMP). A minimum of 16 total clinical hours (8 classes) from this course are required (in addition to the Clinical Case Management course) in order for students to be eligible to apply for tele-clinic internship or on-site clinical internship at our Taos clinic. Each week presents a different case. The titles of the cases are western orthodox diagnostic titles, but during the course of each case we will explore looking at the symptoms and signs from both western herbalism and (to a lesser extent) some Traditional Chinese Medicine perspectives, meaning that the actual herbal diagnosis from a western herbalism perspective may actually be different than the title of the case/week. Cases will usually present with both a chief complaint and acute symptoms as well as in many cases, underlying root causes. 2025 Case Study Schedule * All classes are scheduled for 7pm CST. A Zoom link will be emailed to registered students the day before each session. Week 1/Case 1 – Gastroesophageal Reflux (GERD) - July 3rd, 2025 Week 2/Case 2 – Seasonal Allergies - July 17th, 2025 Week 3/Case 3 – Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) - July 24th, 2025 Week 4/Case 4 – Chronic Asthma - July 31st, 2025 Week 5/Case 5 – Chronic Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) - September 4th, 2025 Week 6/Case 6 – Upper Respiratory Infection (URI) - September 11th, 2025 Week 7/Case 7 – Chronic Sinus Infections - September 18th, 2025 Week 8/Case 8 – PTSD and Anxiety - September 25th, 2025 COURSE INFORMATION Topic: Gastroesophageal Reflux (GERD) Date: July 3rd, 7pm CST. Welcome to the local Premiere of "Counted Out" hosted by Taos Community Auditorium in partnership with LANL Foundation and Taos HIVE ! Join us for a special screening of “Counted Out,” a new hard-hitting documentary that shines a light on math as the foundation of democracy and economic opportunity. Watch the trailer here: Counted Out Film Trailer More about “Counted Out” “Counted Out” investigates the biggest crises of our time. Political polarization. Racial biases. Social injustice. Economic inequity. Climate change. And a global pandemic. All viewed through a previously unseen lens: math. In our current information economy, math is everywhere. The people we date, the news we see, the influence of our votes, the candidates who win elections, the education we can access, the jobs we get is all underwritten by an invisible layer of math that few of us understand, or even notice. But whether we know it or not, our numeric literacy — whether we can speak the language of math — is a critical determinant of social and economic power. Through a mosaic of personal stories, expert interviews, and scenes of math transformation in action, “Counted Out” shows what’s at risk if we keep the status quo. Do we want an America in which most of us don’t consider ourselves “math people?” Where math proficiency goes down as students grow up? Or do we want a country where everyone can understand the math that undergirds our society — and can help shape it? The film’s voices include the late civil rights icon Robert Moses as well as Talithia Williams, associate professor of mathematics at Harvey Mudd University and TEDx speaker of “ Own Your Body’s Data ,” Julia Angwin, investigative journalist and founder of Proof , Steven Levitt, co-author of “Freakonomics.” Information Source: Counted Out Film | eventbrite
