Saint-Maurice-de-l'Echouerie
Montreal, we heard you loud and clear! BACK IN THE DAY POP2K is coming back to The Farsides Saturday July 19th with special guest DJ/producer Fafa Khan
.
We had
TRL, MuchMusic, mix CDs, Myspace pages with way too much glitter, boy bands, pop queens, and the ultimate pop era
. And guess what?
We’re bringing it all back just for you.
If you’ve ever debated Backstreet vs. NSYNC, if you knew Paris & Nicole ruled pop culture, if you can still picture the exact moment Britney hit the screen in that schoolgirl uniform—this is your party.
From Britney to Bieber, Christina to Avril, JT to JLo, baby Riri to P!nk, and early Gaga—we’re throwing it back and singing along to every anthem that made the ‘90s & 2000s pop era supreme.
So charge up your fliip phone, throw on your bedazzled Von Dutch, slide into that pink Juicy Couture or Abercrombie & Fitch—‘cause we like girls that wear Abercrombie & Fitch—and quit playing games with my heart and book now.

POP UP | céramique : RAKU | LESPACEMAKER
Jul 20, 2025 (UTC-4)
Saint-Maurice-de-l'Echouerie
English text below
ENGLISH TEXT ----------------------------
This popup is a Raku firing for pieces that you have previously made. Each firing (there will be 4 throughout the day) lasts an hour and a half (1h30), but please allow an extra half-hour, just in case.
Each person must bring their own pieces to be fired:
Pieces must be made of raku clay or a similarly grogged clay. Raku firing causes a lot of thermal shock, so your pieces need to be tough! Make them thicker and sturdier than you normally would.
Pieces should use raku-specific glaze. Apply a thin layer. Normal glazes will not work! For LESPACEMAKER members, a selection of glazes have been made available for purchase by the Ceramics Committee.
Unfortunately your pieces will not be suitable to eat out of due to the smoke residue and cracks formed by thermal shock.
Pieces must already have been bisque fired at 06.
Each person will be able to fire up to ⅓ of a kiln shelf which is 15.5" in diameter. That's about 3 teacups or one cereal bowl. The max height is 12". To fire more volume, more tickets can be purchased.
You may also bring organics to add to the reduction part of the firing such as feathers or horse hair.
What is a raku firing?
Raku is a traditional Japanese firing technique where a piece is heated to a glowing orange (roughly a cone 06) and then removed from the kiln while still glowing and submerged in a bed of combustible material such as sawdust where it burns all the available air and undergoes a reduction step. This is what gives some raku its metallic appearance.
Raku has a higher failure rate than normal firings due the thermal shock. This adds to the excitement, every surviving piece is a success.
Firing Process:
1. The pieces are loaded in the kiln and fired for about an hour to a red glow.
2. The lid is removed and each piece is placed in its own container full of combustibles and covered with a lid.
3. A wet towel is placed over the lid to keep the smoke down.
4. After a couple minutes the pieces have cooled enough to be removed from the sawdust and cooled in a bucket of water.
5. Pieces are then cleaned of ash and soot to reveal the glaze underneath.
Provided materials:
The raku kiln
Propane for the firing
Tongs
Aprons
Gloves
Sawdust and garbage bins for the reduction step. Feel free to bring your own organic material such as feathers or horse hair.
Number of participants:
min 2 people, 3 people per firing, max of 4 firings
Workshop level:
Beginner, Intermediate
Workshop language:
