He writes regularly for the Sunday Times , and is the author of half a dozen books, including a bestselling autobiography, Fathomless Riches , and the bereavement bestseller The Madness of Grief , written after the death of his partner, David Coles. The first three books in the Canon Clement series have all been No.1 Sunday Times bestsellers. Safe Dating: It is crucial to be cautious when setting up in-person dates or meetings. 1. Don't set up dates too quickly It's normal to chat and have some back and forth before deciding if a date is in the cards. If the person wants to meet you immediately that is a RED FLAG. 2. Meet up in a public place for the first time It's a wise decision to choose a busy public location for your first date. Meet at a pub, coffee shop, restaurant, and/or busy park. This allows a secure setting for both of you. 3. Always arrange your transportation for the initial date Always meet your date in a public place. Never, ever let them pick you up or drop you off on your first few dates. Even if they offer to pick you up or drop you off, say "no thanks" until you trust them! Remember the old saying stranger DANGER. 4. Tell someone you trust that you have a date Never go on a date/meet-up without telling someone. This should always be your no. 1 safety rule when meeting people for the first time. Let a friend or family member know that they should expect to hear from you at a certain time. You can also let them know where you're going on the date. It’s also a smart idea to have a ‘safe word’ or ‘safe phrase’, to use, just in case you need to make a quick exit. 5. Think before exchanging numbers Do not forget that you are under no need to share phone numbers if you feel uncomfortable. It’s OK to schedule dates and converse only through a safe app until you feel ready to give out your phone number. Always take your time when disclosing contact information since your privacy is crucial. 6. ALWAYS Trust your instincts If you sense any discomfort or uneasy vibes while conversing, or planning a date in person, don't hesitate to leave immediately and exit the situation. Your well-being always comes first, and it's perfectly fine to step away if something doesn't feel right. Let your friend or family member know Information Source: Crazy4Events | eventbrite

There will be time to enjoy this peaceful place before we head back to Albury Heath. This middle section of our walk is about 2.5km and is flat/gently undulating. Former Foreign Secretary Sir Jeremy Hunt MP discusses his new book about Britain's place in the world in the century ahead. Britain has been through a difficult period since the global financial crisis, leading many to conclude the country is doomed to inevitable decline. But Jeremy Hunt, who was at the top of government as both Foreign Secretary and Chancellor, disagrees. In his new book: Can We Be Great Again? he sets out to rebut those who think Britain is no longer capable of shaping the world we live in. With the election of President Trump, a world that was already becoming more dangerous has also become more unpredictable. But when it comes to the big challenges facing the world – whether on European security, the future of democracy, migration, trade and climate – the UK remains one of the most influential countries and should, Hunt says, use that influence wisely. Hunt does not shy away from the UK’s weaknesses but argues that they should be considered in perspective and without underestimating this country’s many strengths. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Jeremy Hunt was elected Conservative MP for South West Surrey in 2005. He was first appointed Secretary of State for Health in September 2012, then served as Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs from July 2018 to July 2019, and Chancellor of the Exchequer from October 2022 to July 2024. Before his election as an MP, Jeremy ran his own educational publishing business, Hotcourses. He also set up a charity to help AIDS orphans in Africa in which he continues to play an active role. Jeremy lives in Godalming and London with his wife, son and two daughters. Information Source: Guildford Book Festival | eventbrite

A celebration of seasonal ingredients, grown and cooked by Raymond Blanc at Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons in the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside. The book mirrors the connection - the ethos, principles, heart and soul - between kitchen and garden. With Raymond at our side, we visit his expansive kitchen garden, a homage to the seasons; the medicinal herb garden; the dark but tempting Mushroom Valley; the Japanese Tea Garden; the vast orchard, and the bee hives. Each garden yields precious produce that Raymond uses in all his recipes. There are just as many tips for the keen or ambitious gardeners among us, as there are for the curious cooks. Full of wise words about sowing and planting, prepping and cooking. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Raymond Blanc OBE is acknowledged as one of the finest chefs in the world. Completely self-taught, his influence on gastronomy is so great that he is the only chef to have been honoured with both an OBE from Britain and the Légion d'honneur from France. His beautiful hotel restaurant, Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons, has retained two Michelin stars for thirty-five years and was voted Best Hotel and Best Food Hotel of the Year by the Caterer's Hotelier Top 100 Awards. Raymond has written more than ten books and presented many television shows. He is honorary President of The Sustainable Restaurant Association and Vice President of Garden Organic. ABOUT THE HOST Described by The Independent as one of the UK’s ‘arbiters of taste’, Andrew Turvil is the former editor of The Good Food Guide , AA Restaurant Guide and Which? Pub Guide . As a freelance restaurant critic, writer, and editor, he has spent his career writing about pubs and restaurants, and, undeterred, bought a pub in 2015 and ran it for 10 years. Blood, Sweat and Asparagus Spears is his first book. Drinks All tickets include a 175ml glass of wine or a soft drink. Please choose your preference at the checkout. Parking at Guildford College Free parking is available specifically for this event in the Student Car Park only which is located adjacent to the college.
