SEX CELLS res-Erection | Dragonfly Hollywood

May 3, 2025 (UTC-7)ENDED
City of Los Angeles
Concerts
The legendary party Sex Cells is back for one night only. Special Guests TBA. Born in 2017 , Sex Cells is not just a party—it’s a cultural phenomenon. Unlike anything before or since, it exploded onto the underground scene as a haven for the beautifully bizarre, a chaotic collision of music, fashion, and raw, unapologetic self-expression. A fusion of punk, goth, and queer club culture, Sex Cells has played host to an electrifying mix of performers, from electroclash icons to industrial legends, drag superstars, and boundary-pushing artists. With its signature mix of sleaze, glamour, and debauchery, Sex Cells transforms every venue into a neon-drenched, leather-clad, latex-wrapped fever dream. Past guests have included cult favorites like Marc Almond, Brooke Candy, Azealia Banks, TR/ST, Kim Petras, Amanda Lepore, Cold Cave, and many more—proving that this is more than just a party; it’s a statement. The demand for Sex Cells never stopped. Year after year, fans and performers alike have begged for its return, craving the energy, the spectacle, and the untamed spirit that can’t be found anywhere else. There was nothing like it before, and there will be nothing like it after—this is the party that rewrote the rules . With a fearless and subversive vision, Sex Cells is a celebration of sexual liberation, underground subcultures, and the freaks who refuse to fit in. Whether you're looking to dance until dawn, witness jaw-dropping performances, or lose yourself in a crowd of misfits and muses, Sex Cells is where the underground comes alive. Come dressed to shock, stay to be seduced. Information Source: Lethal Amounts | eventbrite

Cultural Experiences
Hailee Catalano, trained chef, former restaurant cook, and recipe developer in conversation for By Heart: Recipes to Hold Near and Dear . Moderated by Courtney Storer, Culinary Producer for The Bear. Book signing and meet and greet to follow. Learn to make elevated, professional-quality meals in your own kitchen with over 100 creative, seasonal recipes from Hailee Catalano Growing up cooking the Sunday gravy, meatballs, and pasta alongside her Italian American grandmother, Hailee Catalano developed a huge passion for food. This passion led her to the Culinary Institute of America, and then to cooking in restaurants. But somewhere along the way, Hailee started to miss the home cooking that made her fall in love with food in the first place. Restaurants made it seem like beautifully made food was too difficult to recreate at home. In By Heart , she presents over 100 restaurant-quality recipes designed to be made in your home kitchen. You'll find seasonal pastas ( Pasta alla Norcina with Roasted Squash ), veggie-forward recipes designed to make the most of your CSA box ( Caponata with Dried Cherries and Green Olives ), simple meat dishes ( Roast Chicken with Red Wine Vinegar and Honey ) breads ( Hearty Seeded Rye Bread ), butters ( Calabrian Chile Honey Butter ), condiments ( Chicago-Style Fennel Giardiniera ), perfect beach sandwiches ( Brie and Butter Sandwich with Shallot-y Frisée ), simple sweets ( Malted Milk Butter Cookies ), and so much more. Inspired by her professional training and love of seasonal cooking, Hailee includes details on how to keep a calm kitchen, navigate a farmers market, make your own broths and the perfect sourdough loaf, and plan out a Friday Night Dinner menu. Carefully crafted from the heart, this is a book you'll return to again and again. Information Source: Now Serving | eventbrite

Pedro Almodóvar's ALL ABOUT MY MOTHER presented by Queer Diaspora! | Philosophical Research Society

May 9, 2025 (UTC-7)ENDED
City of Los Angeles
Arts
Film
Celebrate Mother’s Day with Queer Diaspora , as 7th House Screenings at PRS welcomes the bi-monthly screening series — programmed and hosted by filmmaker Gregorio Davila ( L.A. A QUEER HISTORY, UNIDAD: GAY AND LESBIAN LATINOS UNIDOS ) — for a screening of Pedro Almodóvar’s late 20th Century classic, a poignant and jubilant meditation on motherly love: ALL ABOUT MY MOTHER ! Decades ahead of its time in terms of feminine perspective and representation, Almodóvar's Oscar winning 1999 masterpiece , ALL ABOUT MY MOTHER celebrates femininity in all its forms. Written as an ode to his recently deceased mother, Almodóvar pays tribute to old Hollywood's glorious tradition of "women's films" , starring the great diva actresses of the time like Norma Shearer and Joan Crawford in THE WOMEN or Bette Davis in ALL ABOUT EVE . Sprinkled with Almodovar's usual troupe of colorful characters, drag queens, trans women and biological women, ALL ABOUT MY MOTHER proves that femininity and womanhood is not a matter of biological fact, it's about experience and emotional connection. And over 25 years old, is still years ahead of Hollywood in terms of trans and nonbinary representation in film. - Program notes by Queer Diaspora programmer Gregorio Davila Following the screening, Davila will be joined by GLAAD nominated writer/director Aitch Alberto ( ARISTOTLE AND DANTE DISCOVER THE SECRETS OF THE UNIVERSE ) to discuss the lasting impact of Almodóvar's modern classic. ALL ABOUT MY MOTHER (1999) Internationally acclaimed writer/director Pedro Almodóvar delivered what stands as one of his greatest films with All About My Mother , a poignant masterpiece of unconditional love, survival and redemption. Manuela (Cecilia Roth) is the perfect mother. A hard-working nurse, she's built a comfortable life for herself and her teenage son, an aspiring writer. But when tragedy strikes and her beloved only child is killed in a car accident, her world crumbles. The heartbroken woman learns her son's final wish was to know his father - the man she abandoned when she was pregnant 18 years earlier. Returning to Barcelona in search of him, Manuela overcomes her grief and becomes caregiver to a colorful [object]end family: a pregnant nun (Penélope Cruz), a transvestite prostitute (Antonia San Juan), and two troubled actresses (Marisa Paredes and Candela Peña). With riveting performances, unforgettable characters and creative plot twists, this touching screwball melodrama is "An absolute stunner. A funny, touching and vital film...a career peak for Almodóvar!" - Peter Travers, ROLLING STONE - Synopsis by Sony Pictures Classics Dir. Pedro Almodóvar, 1999, 101mins, Spain, Spanish w/English Subtitles, Rated R, Digital. Special thanks to Bella Masterson of Sony Pictures Classics. Ticket Price: $12 (in-person event only). Please email events@prs.org or phone 323-663-2167 with any questions. Aitch Alberto is a writer/director born and raised in Miami, Florida. She is a Sundance Episodic Lab alum and Momentum Fellowship, Rideback Rise fellow, recipient of a Skowhegan Artist Residency, a Yaddo fellowship, and Latino Screenwriting Project Fellowship. Most recently, Aitch adapted and directed GLAAD nominee for Outstanding Film ARISTOTLE AND DANTE DISCOVER THE SECRETS OF THE UNIVERSE based on the award-winning young adult novel with Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eugenio Debrez producing. Aristotle and Dante has also received a Guild for Music Supervisors nomination as well as making coveted Best of lists, including Vanity Fair, The Wrap and LA Times. Aitch has written on the upcoming DUSTER, a 1970s-set crime drama series for Max. She also served as a writer on AppleTV+’s series LITTLE AMERICA. She has been included on The Black List's inaugural Latinx List, Aitch was named one of Variety’s 10 Directors To Watch and Indiewire’s 22 Rising Female Filmmakers to watch. Andrew Nicholls, il miglior fabbro of the precisely calibrated gag, lets loose with a rollicking tale in verse as astonishing in its foolhardiness as the film shoot it chronicles. Reading As Man Is To God is like watching a master jeweler carve Mount Rushmore. We stare wide-eyed as the maniacal miniaturist brings off his magnum opus, one deft, hilarious touch at a time. The result is every bit as thrilling and endlessly revisitable as Herzog’s Fitzcarraldo , a rousing tribute to the folly and genius of our species. - Boris Dralyuk, Poet, Translator Information Source: Peggy Dobreer | eventbrite
