LUCY RAVEN: MURDERERS BAR | Vancouver Art Gallery
Apr 18–Sep 28, 2025 (UTC-8)
Vancouver
Lucy Raven: Murderers Bar is the first major presentation of work by multidisciplinary artist Lucy Raven in Vancouver and the artist’s largest exhibition in Canada to date.
Based in New York, Raven (b. 1977) works in installation, photography, video, drawing and sculpture to examine historic and contemporary representations and narratives of the American West.
The exhibition takes its name from Raven’s newest work Murderers Bar (2025), the third installment in a series of moving-image installations and related works called The Drumfire. Co-commissioned by the Vancouver Art Gallery and The Vega Foundation, it features an ensemble of sculptural elements and a video, projected vertically on a tall, free-standing aluminum structure in the gallery space. Created between 2023 and 2025, the video centres around the recent removal of a century-old, concrete gravity dam along the Klamath River in Northern California—the biggest dam removal project in American history.
The exhibition also presents previous and related works—including a selection from Raven’s series Depositions (2024) and Casters X-2 + X-3 (2021)—that provide further context to her practice and a broader appreciation of her ongoing investigations and visual language. The arc of these works reveals the intermingling of nature and technology; the frequent interrelation of military and entertainment applications; and the impact of these forces on lived experience.
Together, the works in this exhibition provide a timely glimpse into the expanding field of Raven’s vision—the push and pull between human intervention and the more-than-human forces of nature and the physical world. The exhibition explores objectivity, subjectivity and perception, from individual and discrete elements of history, technology and the popular imagination to the broader sweep of geological and physical forces that define experience over millennia.
This exhibition is part of the 2025 Capture Photography Festival Featured Exhibitions Program.
Murderers Bar is co-commissioned and jointly acquired by the Vancouver Art Gallery and The Vega Foundation.
WRITTEN IN CLAY: FROM THE JOHN DAVID LAWRENCE COLLECTION | Vancouver Art Gallery
May 25–Nov 9, 2025 (UTC-8)
Vancouver
Written in Clay presents a history of ceramics made in British Columbia told through the collection of John David Lawrence. Featuring more than 300 objects, it examines the materials and processes artists utilized in relation to the context in which studio ceramics arose and developed in the region.
The exhibition features three interconnected sections: influence and inspiration; form and function; and artist spotlights that highlight important figures whose work and legacies altered the direction of ceramic arts in BC. Celebrating 35 artists, Written in Clay establishes the mentors, interlocutors, societies and schools that made up a vast clay community in the region from the 1930s to the early 2000s.
This exhibition will be accompanied by a publication.

EMILY CARR: NAVIGATING AN IMPENETRABLE LANDSCAPE | Vancouver Art Gallery
Jan 25, 2025–Jan 4, 2026 (UTC-8)
Vancouver
In its exhibition design, Emily Carr: Navigating an Impenetrable Landscape draws out the question of the opening and closing-off of space in Carr’s landscapes by contrasting a densely hung group of paintings with sparsely hung later works that depict an open horizon. Ironically, many of the spatially open works are open precisely because they depict landscapes that had been recently subject to clear-cut logging.
This exhibition uses the spatial metaphor of closeness to and distance from nature to probe Carr’s thinking about the forests she painted. It will also examine how Carr’s representation of some Indigenous subjects—particularly villages and totem poles set within landscapes—sit in relation to the dense forest and what this might suggest, given the late 19th- and early 20th-century tendency to conflate Indigenous cultures with nature.

Family Constellations Women's Circle | Eton Studio
Jul 17, 2025 (UTC-7)
Vancouver
Family Constellations Women's Circle
Join us for a unique experience at our
Family Constellations Women's Circle
! Discover the power of group healing
as we connect to our ancestors, explore intergenerational patterns
and
being to heal our connection to ourselves and our authenticity
.
This in-person event will be held at the gorgeous
Eton Studio
located at
2598 Eton St, Vancouver
and is open to all women. Connect to other souls in a safe, supportive environment as we journey together into the ancestral field. Hope to see you there!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I truly believe that the family we are born into is no accident. Our soul has signed up for the lessons, wounds, and trials resulting from our upbringing. We also have a birthright: to be connected to the deep river of love that flows from our ancestors, and to be held and supported by the strength and wisdom of our lineage.
Over time, our ancestral roots can become entangled by unresolved trauma, unacknowledged grief, exclusions, accidents, death and more. Essentially, any events that break the universal rules of the family energy field can block the flow of love up the roots, impeding the vitality of the tree and its branches (us, the descendants!).
The health of our ancestral field determines whether we are limited or nourished by our family system. I truly believe that our path toward healing and wholeness must also involve healing the Family Soul.
In Family Constellations, the family system is addressed, seeking to uncover and resolve unconscious patterns and dynamics as they present themselves. We can't shift the unconscious until we bring it to our awareness and acknowledge it.
To that effect, we can work with any issue that you are being confronted with, be it relationship, career, money, family, etc. by setting a constellation and allowing the flow of the field to show us what is ready to emerge for healing and transmutation.
"Through being born into a family, we inherit not only our biological genes,
but also our belief systems and behavior patterns. ... We may feel that we have
been held in a pattern of problems for eternity. Family constellations offer us
a chance to understand these patterns at the deepest level. They enable us to
bring our patterns to resolution, and thus find peace and happiness." - Joy Manne
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Agenda:
After grounding, we will honour our ancestors and then we will set two constellations as a group.
Newcomers, you are welcome! I'll do a short intro to constellations and support each of you on this journey.
What to Bring
:
Wear comfortable clothing and bring whatever you might need to feel cozy (shawl, cozy socks, sweater, etc.
Please consider arriving fragrance-free.
If you are experiencing any cold or flu symptoms, please do not attend, as all participants will be in close proximity to each other.
Ancestral Altar
: We will set a communal altar to honour our ancestors. Please bring an item for the altar, like photo/s of your ancestors, family trees, heirlooms, any objects that hold a special significance for your family, or anything else that you feel drawn to contributing as an offering to your ancestors.
If you have any questions in the meantime, feel free to send me an email at alecs@alecsd.com

Your Host, Alecs Dragne:
I've been an adventurer of the inner soul plane from a young age. Life, in its infinite wisdom, has guided me to intimately explore the inner work, through personal struggles with grief and chronic illness.
Through my own experimentation and a hunger for knowledge, I have collected and embodied a large body of knowledge and wisdom to support you on your own healing journey.
I am certified in the Emotion Code, a Gene Keys Guide and a Human Design Reader, and a Family Constellations facilitator.
When I discovered Family Constellations in 2022, I was immediately struck by the power of group work and how this modality makes us aware of the universal nature of our wounding. Suddenly, we are not alone in the grief of our family of origin, and we find both solace and healing in community. Family Constellations has had some of the most profound effects on my healing journey and I continue to be amazed at how much energy we are able to move in one single session.

Syrah vs Shiraz: Australia vs the World! | JAK's Beer Wine Spirits
Jul 17, 2025 (UTC-7)
Vancouver
To continue our grape-focused series, tonight’s tasting sticks to the theme—with a twist. We’re staging a showdown between two expressions of one of the world’s most legendary and ancient grape varieties: France’s syrah versus Australia’s shiraz.
We'll be pouring three syrahs from both Old and New World origins and pitting them against three bold, sun-drenched shirazes to see which wins our hearts—and where our true loyalties lie.
While shiraz is the backbone of Australian red wine, known for its richness and ripe, full-throttle character, syrah in all its forms is a classic terroir grape—meaning it tells the story of where it was grown with every sip. Whether you call it syrah or shiraz, tonight is all about discovering how place, style, and tradition shape this timeless varietal.

Vancouver
Eco Printing & Bundle Dyeing: A Hands-On Botanical Workshop
Step into the vibrant world of eco printing through the wonder of bundle dyeing—an alchemical process that extracts pigments from natural materials to create striking patterns on textiles. Under Naomi’s guidance, we will work with flowers, leaves, tea, onion skins, and other botanicals to create one-of-a-kind impressions on fabric. Each participant will be provided with pre-treated fabric pieces, ready to soak up the beauty of natural pigments. As your bundles steam and set, you’ll also explore the art of Hapa-zome—a playful technique that uses pounding to transfer plant colors and textures directly onto cloth. This immersive workshop offers a rich introduction to botanical printing, blending artistry and experimentation. You’ll leave with a small collection of hand-printed fabric treasures and a deeper appreciation for the potential and unexpected beauty found in everyday botanicals. Expect an atmosphere of joyful creativity, tactile discovery, and a sensory journey through the botanical world.
