Help the Burnaby Lake Weedbusters at Lenson! We are expanding our native wildflower meadow! BLPA volunteers will weed out any invasive vegetation regrowth in the covered expansion area around the existing meadow, particularly any Creeping Buttercup , then spread a layer of new soil over the expansion area and sow some native seeds there. We will meet at the Lenson Garage. Please scroll down to see a map to precise location. Tools and training will be provided. This event will be limited to 15 volunteers. If you are a new volunteer, please select the "New Volunteer" Ticket. If you are a returning volunteer, please select the "Returning Volunteer" Ticket. What to bring Water bottle, and your work/garden gloves and tools if you prefer. Don’t miss out on a day of building, designing, and innovation with Science AL!VE! Spaghettecture Showdown Put your pasta to the test! In this structural engineering challenge, teams design and build the strongest possible bridge using only spaghetti and glue. Will your bridge hold up under pressure—or crack under the crunch? Brainstorm Drop Zone Inspired by the classic egg drop—but with a jiggly twist. Participants design protective contraptions to keep a jello brain safe as it’s dropped from increasing heights. Success requires cushioning, creativity, and some serious impact analysis. Launch Lab: Rocket R&D Explore the physics of propulsion in this explosive activity! Using basic materials, participants build and test mini rocket launchers, adjusting trajectory, angle, and force to hit specific targets. Newton’s Laws have never been this fun. Turbine Tech: Wind & Water Edition Harness the power of nature in this renewable energy challenge. Teams create miniature windmills or water turbines designed to lift weights or power small machines.
