We will provide an insight into both the physical and mental challenges of achieving such a high standard of soldiering whilst balancing that with other demands such as work, studies and family life. You’ll be able to ask questions, see some of the equipment in use and have a demonstration in some of the physical challenges you’ll have to master should you choose to join us. Royal Marines training is demanding, but really rewarding; you’ll experience camaraderie and visit places that you’ve never been, whilst allowing you to develop new transferable skills which will benefit your full time career. An unmissable painting in the Walker Art Gallery, Solomon J Solomon’s Samson created a sensation when first exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts in 1887, marking out its artist as a rising star. Julian’s lecture looks at Solomon's career, and some of the problems he faced as a Jew in the late Victorian and Edwardian art world - he was only the second Jew to become a Royal Academician. In addition to his success as a painter, his career took a surprising turn during the First World War when he became an expert in camouflage painting. Art historian Julian Treuherz was Keeper of Art Galleries for National Museums Liverpool from 1989 to 2007. At the Walker, he curated exhibitions on Alma-Tadema, Rossetti and Art in the Age of Steam. Since retiring he curated the Ford Madox Brown exhibition in Manchester, published a book about the Art and Architecture of Sicily and jointly authored guidebooks to Manchester and Liverpool in the ‘111 Places’ series. This event is part of Jack's Project 26:26 fundraising initiative , which has already raised more than £125,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Jack is once again lacing up his trainers. Only this time, he's inviting the Project 26:26 community for a special afternoon to support his biggest project yet - a community fun run! The challenge is simple: complete as many loops of our 2.6-mile course as you can in 2.6 hours . This family-friendly event is for all ages and abilities. This event is a run not a race as there are road crossings (TBC with final route), to assist there will be safety marshals at road crossings but they will not be able to stop the traffic for you.
