Smartphones & Neurodiversity: How Smartphones Affect Neurodiverse Brains | Canada Games Centre

May 22, 2025 (UTC-3)ENDED
Halifax
Family Events
Smartphones & Neurodiversity: How Smartphones Affect our Neurodiverse Youth Come join us at the Canada Games Centre Boardroom for a special FREE event that will explore how smartphone use affects neurodiversity - namely, ADHD and Autism . Smartphones and social media are reshaping childhood — but very differently for neurodiverse children. Drawing from expert research, including insights from Jonathan Haidt’s " The Anxious Generation ", this event explores how digital technology affects mental health, social development, and behaviours among our neurodiverse youth. While the impacts of smartphone use on our children's neurotypical peers are becoming evident, parents need to consider the prounounced effect these devices have on our n eurodiverse children with ADHD or Autism . Their different brain makeup means that smartphones can cause issues with executive function, sleep, attention, an enhanced drive for dopamine & constant stimulation, dimished perseverance, disregard for consequences, and increased emotional reactivity. These factors can result in emotionally heightened homes, difficult parenting, and can hinder our children's real-world development. Learn about Unplugged Canada 's mission and how delaying smartphone s can protect your child’s mental health. We'll share practical advice for parents to make informed decisions and create a healthy balance between technology and real-life experiences for kids. Don't miss out on this opportunity to connect with other parents in your community and navigate the challenges of raising these unique children in the digital age together. Unable to join in person? Zoom registration available. SOLD OUT - Mo Kenney at Steeple Green | Steeple Green Books

Musquodoboit Harbour
Music
Concerts
Mo Kenney is coming to town! Mo Kenney is a Singer/Songwriter from Nova Scotia, Canada with renowned lyrical prowess and memorable presence. On their fifth studio album, From Nowhere, Mo Kenney embraces the textures of ambiguity and the rich blur of being, failing, and becoming. As they shift through lush arrangements that touch on dreamy folk, sparse alt-country, and warm, hazed-out lo-fi pop, everything is up for interpretation and nothing is fixed. In their lyrics, Kenney opts instead to defy definition, making room for non-linear and fragmentary sentiments that challenge their own feelings about personal growth, acknowledge the slippery and shadowy nature of memory, and build love songs that conjure the bonds of friendship just as much as they hint at romance. Show at 8:00pm Doors at 7:30pm $15/$20 advance tickets $25 at the door mokenney.com mokenney.bandcamp.com Steeple Green Books 26 East Petpeswick Rd.
