Connecting to Thrive: Moncton | Crandall University

May 3, 2025 (UTC-3)ENDED
Moncton
Cultural Experiences
Welcome to Connecting to Thrive - Moncton ! Join us on Sat, May 3, 2025 for a day filled with inspiration, connection, and growth. This in-person event is designed to bring together like-minded individuals who are passionate about personal development and community building. Come network, learn from industry experts, and discover new opportunities to thrive in your personal and professional life. Don't miss out on this chance to connect, learn, and grow with us! What to Expect: Community Engagement Reimagined: Learn how to tap into your community's potential by engaging with under-explored ministry opportunities right in your neighborhood. Our workshop emphasizes that community engagement is not just supplemental—it’s an essential component of your missional work. Practical, Action-Oriented Training: Through a dynamic, user-friendly toolkit, participants will gain hands-on experience in key areas: Local Resource Analysis: Receive a customized report on your area’s resources, generated by Wycliffe’s Canadian Institute for Empirical Church Research, to help identify opportunities for community development. Community Development Skills: Master building block skills used by community development workers to assess and mobilize resources for sustainable projects, and learn gold-standard strategies for creating spaces where community members lead and sustain initiatives. Theological Insight: Our sessions will explore why actively participating in local development is not only beneficial but necessary for fulfilling your congregation’s mission. Discussion Topics: 1) Your Mission In this sub-session, participants will be introduced to a nuanced typology that identifies how churches/organizations conceive and practice outreach through a typology developed by Ron Sider — dominant social action , dual-focus , holistic (complementary or instrumental) , dominant evangelism , and inward-focused —revealing distinct “bundles” of beliefs and activities. They will reflect on how these categories manifest in their church’s conceptual understanding and actual outreach endeavors, assessing how closely their efforts align or diverge from their broader mission. This process highlights both strengths and potential gaps, offering pathways toward a more integrated approach. By the end, participants will have gained deeper insight into refining or expanding their outreach to better serve their communities and share their faith 2) Theology of Place, Frontline In this sub-session, participants will explore a theology of place by examining how the church exists in both its gathered form—when believers come together for worship and fellowship—and its scattered form—when individuals live out their faith in everyday contexts. They will consider the importance of recognizing the neighborhood as a key sphere of mission, along with each person’s frontline—the primary place of daily engagement such as work, school, or community activities. This reflection invites participants to see every space they inhabit as significant for ministry and discipleship. 3) Your Community Context In this sub-session, participants will examine a detailed community profile—developed by CIECR—to gain a clearer understanding of the demographics in their church’s context. By reviewing population data, socio-economic factors, and other key indicators, they will discover both opportunities and challenges unique to their neighborhood. This process not only clarifies where the church can focus its efforts most effectively but also highlights the importance of informed, context-driven ministry. Ultimately, the goal is to foster a deeper awareness of the community’s needs and strengths, guiding more purposeful engagement and outreach. 4) Organizational/Church Culture In this sub-session, participants will use the competing values framework to examine their internal church culture, discovering how various organizational dynamics either support or hinder the church’s stated mission. They will explore key cultural dimensions—such as flexibility versus control or internal cohesion versus external focus—to see how each aligns with the broader context in which they serve. This process reveals potential mismatches between the church’s actual culture and its desired outreach efforts. Ultimately, participants will identify ways to realign their internal values and practices to better serve their community and fulfill their gospel calling. 5) Building from Within In this sub-session, participants will synthesize the insights gained throughout the workshop and apply them to the church’s internal structures, leadership, and ministry teams. They will identify actionable steps to align their cultural values, discipleship processes, and overall organizational ethos with the mission priorities uncovered in previous sessions. By focusing on practical areas such as leadership development, volunteer engagement, and communication channels, the church can ensure a cohesive environment that supports holistic ministry. Participants will leave with a clearer plan to nurture spiritual health and unity within the congregation. 6) Engaging Beyond the Walls Building on the internal alignment, participants will now explore how to effectively carry their renewed vision and practices beyond the church walls. They will assess possibilities for partnerships, neighborhood collaboration, and targeted outreach strategies that resonate with the community profile and mission framework. This session emphasizes sustainable engagement that respects local contexts and fosters authentic relationships. By the end, participants will be better equipped to implement outward-focused initiatives, serving their community in meaningful, transformative ways. About the Institute The Institute for Community Engagement (ICE) serves faith-inspired leaders within organizations and churches across Canada, the United States, and around the globe. ICE provides space for reflection, learning, and collaborative support toward holistic engagement with all people in enacting transformational change. A special note of thanks for the visionary generosity of The Selah Foundation in providing core funding for this initiative through Wycliffe College. Why Attend? This workshop is your chance to: Connect with like-minded local churches and community organizations. Gain practical tools and strategies that can be immediately applied to your ministry. Enhance your impact by integrating community engagement into your mission. Receive a community profile based on your particular churches or organization's context. See sample report here . Join us to transform the way you engage with your community and to explore impactful ministry opportunities. Register Today! Information Source: Wycliffe College, University of Toronto | eventbrite
