The Stulberg International String Competition promotes excellence in string instrument performance by gifted musicians under the age of 20 years old. The Stulberg has an impressive track record of counting some of the world’s most gifted string artists among its participants and prizewinners. Founded in 1975 to honor Dr. Julius Stulberg, the Stulberg Competition attracts the finest string players in the world. Boasting over 2,500 young string participants in its 50-year history, many of the competition’s previous winners have gone on to illustrious classical music careers. This formal event will feature a cocktail hour featuring music by Barry Ross and Terry Lower, dinner and bar service and entertainment by 2021 Stulberg judge Mitchell Newman and 2025 Stulberg judge Lucas Richman. Mr. Richman is a respected composer and has been commissioned to write a concerto in honor of the Stulberg’s 50th. Mr. Richman and Mr. Newman will give audiences a sneak peek of the piece and provide a celebrative performance. The cocktail hour begins at 6:30 in the Atrium, it will feature passed hors d’oeuvres, wine and beer and a specialty cocktail crafted for Stulberg’s 50th Anniversary Gala. Dinner will be served at the table with three choices including a meat, fish, or vegetarian entrée. During dinner wine will be served at the table. There will be a special dessert bar to follow with coffee and the continuation beverages. Parking is available along East Michigan Ave, Edwards Street and Water Street. The Warner Norcross building parking ramp is available with entrances on Edwards St. Entrance to the Desenburg is available through Haymarket Plaza. There is a general entrance to Mainstreet East and the Desenburg from East Michigan Ave. Ambassadors will be street-side to welcome and direct guests. Individuals who purchase a ticket will receive additional email correspondence with updated parking, arrival, and updated information about the event. Join us for one of Wenke's Spring Potting Parties to plant your own container garden (s) that will make you the envy of your neighborhood. We will guide you while you create your very own masterpiece. Bring patio-size containers from home or choose from our own fabulous selection. You will need to pay for all of the plant material you use to create your containers at the end of the workshop and this cost will be determined by size and amount of plant material used. You may take your planters home with you on the day of your scheduled party or we will care for your container(s) for free at the retail store until the 5/17/25 pickup date. Please keep in mind that any containers left at the retail store after the 5/17/25 pickup dates will be subject to additional growing fees*. This is your chance to enjoy planting your beautiful containers, without having to worry about any of the cleanup. You pay for the plants you use in your container. Final cost will be determined by size and amount of plant material used and will need to be paid at the end of the workshop. You may bring up to 2 containers. No outside plant material allowed. If you are going to bring your own containers from home, please empty the dirt out and give them a few swipes with a rag before bringing them to the workshop. It is always best to start the season with fresh potting soil. Wenke Garden Reward Members receive free soil when planting your own containers at the store. Not a Garden Reward Member? Joining is easy and FREE! Sign up in the store. If you are planning to purchase some containers before the class, please arrive at least 15 minutes early to make your selection. We will care for your containers for free at the retail store until the 5/17/25 pickup date. Interested in lasers? Come check out ours. Meet with artist Kevin Hayden and learn about the various types of laser cutting machines as well as some of the science behind them. The finale of the event will be a section where we will test cutting various unconventional things in the laser cutter. Cucumbers? Ribeye? Fireworks? Your grandmother? No one can say.
