Tapestry Weaving: Weaving the View with Irene Evison | Ardgour Ales
Jun 8, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Fort William
We’ll take our inspiration from the colours, shapes and textures of the lochside landscape, using a simple frame and selection of yarns. Think of it as a combination between relaxation, mindful creativity and appreciation of the outdoors. Create your own tapestry weaving doodle based on the natural world around us, a tiny sampler to take away. No experience necessary. All materials and equipment provided. Children over 10 welcome when accompanied by an adult. Led by Irene Evison, Nearly Wild Weaving https://nearlywildweaving.wordpress.com/ @nearlywildweaving Inspired by the natural world, one of my favourite things is sitting somewhere outdoors ‘weaving the view’, distilling key elements of what I see to create a tapestry in just a few hours. When I look at the tapestry afterwards, I’m reminded of the birdsong, breeze and sense of wellbeing that I experienced while I was weaving. My portfolio also includes much more in-depth studio-designed pieces, each the product of many hour, days and weeks of planning and weaving. And I love inspiring other people to be creative through the medium of tapestry weaving, often through participatory outdoor weaving experiences, but also through workshops and community projects. USEFUL TO KNOW..... We'll be based at Ardgour Ales, in Ardgour. We’ll be outdoors, soaking up the atmosphere of the environment around us, so come prepared for any weather. We’ll have shelters, so unless it’s blowing a hoolie from the north, we’ll be able to carry on regardless. With our base at Ardgour Ales, you’ll be able to refresh your creative energies with tea, coffee and snacks throughout the day, and of course their own craft ales will be available from to enjoy. Ideal if you have a partner, friends or family who are less interested in the art! Check out what's available at https://www.ardgourales.scot/ The Brewery is a short walk from the Corran Ferry, which is free for foot passengers. On a Saturday, the first ferry runs from Corran is at 6.30am and the last ferry leaves Ardgour at 9.20pm, and on Sunday it's a later start at 8.30am from Ardgour/8.45am from Corran, and a 9.20pm last ferry.

Ring of Steall Skyrun | Glen Nevis Youth Hostel
Jun 14, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Fort William
The Ring of Steall is a classic round of four Munros above Glen Nevis, Lochaber. The route involves two fantastic and technical (grade 1) ridges with views over Ben Nevis. In recent years, the loop has gained worldwide popularity on account of the Salomon Ring of Steall Skyrace which used to take place over these mountains (but this event is no more!) The classic 16km/1700m round starts and finishes in Glen Nevis and includes all the best parts of the longer/previous skyrace route. Despite still being the official race recce provider for Skyline Scotland*, this guided skyrun from Girls on Hills is not associated any skyrace and is therefore not a race recce. Instead our group of runners will enjoy a sociable and relaxed journey around this scenic route, with plenty of walking, plus stopping for photos and lunch along the way (weather permitting!) There are no prerequisites but you should have a good level of hill fitness and some fell running experience (ideally your would be capable of comfortably running 10km on hilly trails) to get the most out of this guided skyrunning experience. But you don't need to be fast! Upon booking you will receive a full kit list and details or where to meet your Girls on Hills guide. *Skyline Scotland will is set to return in 2025 (Septmber 20th) and will be based at Nevis Range, Fort William. Ask your Girls on Hills guide about the new races from Skyline Scotland or see our guided race recces online. We can't wait to show you this local favourite. It's gonna knock your socks off!
