James “Skip” Liberty voluntarily joined the Army in 1968 during the Vietnam War, carrying a home video camera given by his uncle to document his experience. What began as a simple request turned into an extraordinary firsthand account, capturing everything from basic training to life in Vietnam’s camps and battlefields. Decades later, a chance encounter with filmmaker Tommy Dilger brought this forgotten footage to light, leading to the creation of a powerful feature film. A lifetime love of textiles and interest in the ‘genderisation’ of embroidery often see her combining mediums, printing onto textiles or hand stitching into prints. Donohue's practice is influenced by multiple themes including domesticity, innocence and popular culture. She investigates the connection between these themes and images or items from her own personal history – an event, a person or place, physical or ephemeral. Activities, thoughts, items reoccur daily, weekly, and monthly. Repetition makes for familiarity and meditation. Patterns form and life continues. Donohue is a member of the Newcastle Printmakers Workshop, the Make Space Collective and Art-in-Sync. She works teaches printmaking and textile techniques, works part-time for a regional arts organisation and, in 2023, was a mentor for Newcastle Art Space Information Source: Lake Mac Arts and Culture | eventbrite
