Email all registration and other questions to zarhortonkbx@gmail.com. Registration Cancellation by Participant: Registration fees are non-refundable. No refunds will be granted . Registrants may transfer their registration to another person for no fee. Read below and choose the right workshop for you or register for both and join us for the weekend! Kettlebell 101: Simple & Sinister™ Accept no compromises. Between power and conditioning. Between strength and flexibility. Between being an athlete and looking like one. Enter the kettlebell—the only training tool able to deliver all aspects of extreme fitness with no compromises. No-one knows how to wield this tool better than StrongFirst, the kettlebell ground zero. Taking the Kettlebell 101 workshop is like walking into the pages of Pavel’s ground-breaking book Kettlebell Simple & Sinister. You will learn the kettlebell exercises that deliver great gains while having the steepest learning curve: The Swing—build a back of steel, sprinter’s glutes, fighter’s conditioning, and a blue-collar grip The Get-up—forge resilient shoulders and bullet-proof abs The Goblet Squat—develop a killer blend of strength and flexibility Kettlebell safety and other boring stuff that pros swear by and amateurs ignore at their own risk Insider strategies for long term sustainable training to reach your goals Pavel’s “Alt-S&S” programming—totally in line with the book, yet with unique wrinkles The day after the workshop you will be able to hit the ground running towards your goals. Kettlebell 201: The Rite of Passage Suggested Prerequisites -To attend this workshop, you need to be competent in swings, get-ups, and goblet squats. Ignore at your peril. -Learn these skills from a Kettlebell 101 workshop , a StrongFirst accredited gym , or a StrongFirst certified SFG instructor . Once you have reached the impressive yet realistic “Timeless Simple” standard, you have choices to make. Stay on a monastic diet of swings and get-ups, slowly chipping away at “Sinister.” Or try something “same but different”: the snatch plus the clean and military press, the classic Rite of Passage. The Snatch is “the Tsar of the kettlebell lifts.” Thanks to more muscles working and twice the distance travelled, it accomplishes even more than the esteemed swing. Achieve total body explosive power, ruthless conditioning, and a vice like grip. Burn fat like never before. All with a lighter kettlebell—save space in your home, car trunk, or deployment kit. Once we have taught you the skills with our usual attention to detail, we will send you off to succeed with a Strong Endurance™ snatch plan. The one-arm Clean-and-Press will rival any other pressing exercise when it comes to shoulder strength and muscular development. It is untouchable when it comes to shoulder health, thanks to its ergonomic perfection. The military press comes equipped with the “Rite of Passage” type programming—possibly the most reliable progression ever. Three versions of the ROP—“Jurassic,” “907 Hypertrophy,” and “Heavy”—will keep you gaining for a long time. Kettlebell 201 ROP sets high goals—and gives you the skills and the roadmap to reach them. Sign up and power to you! Registration Cancellation by Participant: Registration fees are non-refundable. No refunds will be granted. Exceptional circumstances will be reviewed and determined on a case-by-case basis by Zar Horton. Registrants may transfer their registration to another person for no fee. Please email zarhortonkbx@gmail.com directly to complete this action. Please note if you are purchasing tickets for multiple attendees: Enter the full name and email address of every student who will be in attendance so we can ensure all StrongFirst Workshop information reaches everyone. Visionary Voices Then and Now (Albuquerque) | Albuquerque Museum

Albuquerque
Cultural Experiences
Join us on April 12th for a live performance featuring three historical figures of great importance brought together as a panel. With a moderator to guide the discussion, they'll answer questions and engage in dialog with one another. The theme is Conservation Philosophy and Ethics. Our Visionary Voices included Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt, John Muir and Aldo Leopold, three individuals who profoundly shaped the conservation movement in the United States and beyond. Please join us as these historical characters share their stories and bring to life the times in which they lived. Speakers Adam Lindquist as Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt Adam Lindquist regularly appears as Roosevelt for the National Park Service, United States Navy, Army Corp of Engineers, The National Fish and Wildlife Service and many State recreation agencies and national associations. Doug Hulmes as John Muir Doug Hulmes performed John Muir for several years under a contract with the Arizona Humanities Council on a scholar speaker’s bureau. He is a Professor Emeritus of Environmental Studies at Prescott College. Doug received an award for outstanding presenter at the National Wilderness Rangers Conference in Durango, Colorado, for his performance of John Muir. In September 2004, Doug was invited to perform in Washington D. C. for the 40th Anniversary Celebration of the Wilderness Act. In 2009, Doug performed for the opening of an International Conference on Friluftsliv at Nord Trøndelag University in Norway. He is presently researching the traditions, mythology and folklore of planting sacred trees on farms in Norway and Sweden. You can google his paper, Sacred Trees of Norway and Sweden if you are interested in his research on the folklore and traditions related to trees in Scandinavia. Steve Morgan as Aldo Leopold Steve Morgan is a naturalist, educator and a retired landscape architect who focused on retaining and recreating natural habitat. The wilds of the Southwest have been his home for over 50 years. He currently resides with his wife Nichole and four canine companions in Kingston, New Mexico, three miles away from the Aldo Leopold Wilderness.  Given his first copy of Aldo Leopold’s A Sand County Almanac when he was only 9 years old, Steve grew up finding nature to explore even in his birthplace of the Los Angeles area. After moving to a rural western Arkansas town when he was 10, his love of the natural world  blossomed.  When a dear friend suggested he start performing Chautauquas or Living Histories as Aldo Leopold, he naively said okay. After over 20 years of studying Leopold and giving more than 75 performances, he joins us for Visionary Voices. Discussion moderated by Heather Provencio Heather Provencio recently retired after nearly four decades with the U.S. Forest Service. Most of her career was spent in Northern Arizona, where she began as a wildland firefighter. She later worked in various resource areas, including recreation, business, archaeology, and tribal relations. Heather earned her Bachelor's and Master of Arts degrees in Anthropology from Northern Arizona University, graduating in 1984 and 1999, respectively. She and her husband reside in Silver City, New Mexico, where they enjoy hiking, photographing, and birdwatching in the Gila National Forest. Information Source: Bethany Tabor | eventbrite

Mark Farina | Sister

Apr 25, 2025 (UTC-6)ENDED
Albuquerque
Concerts
Mark Farina is a name that rings out across the entire global dance music industry. His non-stop touring, constant content creation, partnerships with legendary venues and record labels as well as his total commitment to showcasing the best new and old school producers in his sets have made him a living legend to lovers of house and Mushroom Jazz everywhere. “I look at my job as a ‘modern day traveling minstrel’. To bring new music to as many places as I can and expose obscure records that otherwise might go hidden.” At the age of 16, in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois, Mark became obsessed with music and record collecting eventually discovering the ‘80s underage club mecca, Medusa’s. While record shopping at Import’s Etc. in 1988, Farina met fellow innovator and future best mate, Derrick Carter, who steered him towards groundbreaking House Music Producers and labels of the time. Later that year, Farina landed an impressive residency at Chicago’s legendary live music venue, Smart Bar, a relationship he maintains to this day. In 1989, Mark, Derrick, and Chris Nazuka (aka Symbols and Instruments) signed with Kevin Sanderson’s KMS records and released “Mood” which sold over 35,000 copies and is credited as the first “Ambient House” track. Farina then pushed musical boundaries even further when he experimented with a deeper style of music that wasn’t being played in the main rooms of nightclubs. Combining the likes of De La Soul with disco classics and Martin Luther King samples, he seamlessly blended West Coast jazzy beats, acid jazz grooves, the Chicago House sound of his youth and some ‘90s New York Hip-Hop. The result: Mushroom Jazz. The birth of this new sound cemented Farina’s musical versatility. He recorded limited-edition cassette tapes that would sell out in minutes at Chicago’s Gramophone Records, the store Mark worked at in the early 90’s. Promoters took notice of his rapidly expanding following and soon his schedule was packed with gigs around Chicago and the rest of the US. In 1992, Farina relocated to San Francisco, California, where he started co-hosting a weekly Mushroom Jazz club night on Wednesdays. At the same time, OM Records released Volume 1 of the groundbreaking Mushroom Jazz CD series. In a testament to the series’ continued impact on the culture of Dance Music, in 2016 Mark dropped Mushroom Jazz 8, which not only celebrated its 25th Anniversary but also debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Album Chart. San Francisco continued to inspire Mark throughout the millennium. During this era of mix CD’s, Farina released more than a dozen compilations on various labels including United DJ’s of America Vol. 9 (DMC), Air Farina (OM) (featuring his smash single, “Dream Machine” [feat. Sean Hayes]), Live in Tokyo (OM) and Fabric 40 (Fabric). Mark Farina’s impressive discography is a true education in House Music history. With a passion for playing extended all night long shows as well his recent foray into streaming exemplified by his highly successful new YouTube series with Defected Records, Farina continues to tirelessly entertain his incredible fans all over the globe with over 100 shows per year. He’s also greatly increased his original productions and remixes with partner Homero Espinosa while guiding his own label Great Lakes Audio Recordings. Mark has several new projects lined up for release in 2023 including Mushroom Jazz 9. The last few years have been an incredible new era of creativity, outreach, and recognition for one of the most original and consistent voices in the business. Mark continues to connect with new fans without losing those who have been loyal supporters from day one. Fans, promoters, and industry insiders all know that no matter what changes come along Mark Farina always delivers. Information Source: SISTER | eventbrite

LSD and the Search for God | Sister

Apr 28, 2025 (UTC-6)ENDED
Albuquerque
Concerts
LSD and the Search for God hit the Northern California coast in 2005––seemingly from another place and time––dosing San Francisco with hypnotic shows. With reviews of early shows and recordings drawing comparisons to My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Yo La Tengo, Spacemen 3, and Sonic Youth, the band quickly developed a must-see reputation within the underground psychedelic music scene. When LSD finally released their self-titled debut EP (Mind Expansion Records, 2007) it sold out from the record label prior to the official release date. It earned critical acclaim and continues to frequently appear on lists of essential shoegaze releases. The EP was twice reissued on vinyl (Deep Space Recordings, 2008, 2015), twice on cassette (Cellar Door Tapes, 2015), and selected tracks were featured on three compilations: Mind Expansion Vol. 1, M.E. Vol. 2, and Australian nugazer compilation Take Me on the Wildest Spree (Rubber Records/EMI, 2008). LSD’s most recent release, Heaven Is a Place (Space Age Recordings, 2016), captures a snapshot in time soon after Ricky Maymi (Brian Jonestown Massacre) temporarily joined the band on drums. Like the self-titled EP, it garnered critical acclaim and frequented many Best Of lists. Pop Matters calls it, “a long-awaited sermon for the faithful and a blazing induction for new converts,” while Primal Music says it’s “another astonishing collection of five psychedelic stories glistening with the same spaced out ingredients that blew my mind way back in 2007.” LSD’s time and space travels have led them all over the U.S., Canada, and Europe, including tours with Martin Rev (Suicide), Sonic Boom (Spacemen 3), and The Telescopes, as well as appearances at Levitation–Austin Psych Fest, SoCal’s Desert Daze, Manchester’s Cosmosis Festival (with The Jesus and Mary Chain), Bathysphere (with A Place To Bury Strangers), twice at Desert Stars (first with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, then The Dandy Warhols), Calgary’s Garbage Daze, and Portugal’s Reverence Valada (with The Damned, The Oh Sees, and Silver Apples). A new record is currently in the works. Support from Zeruel. Information Source: SISTER | eventbrite

Cultural Experiences
Welcome to the local Premiere of "Counted Out" hosted by Teach Plus New Mexico in partnership with UNM College of Education and Human Sciences! Join us for a special screening of “Counted Out,” a new hard-hitting documentary that shines a light on math as the foundation of democracy and economic opportunity. Stick around for a group panel with Lauren Scott, Michael Mack, Andrea Lopez after the show! Watch the trailer here: Counted Out Film Trailer More about “Counted Out” “Counted Out” investigates the biggest crises of our time. Political polarization. Racial biases. Social injustice. Economic inequity. Climate change. And a global pandemic. All viewed through a previously unseen lens: math. In our current information economy, math is everywhere. The people we date, the news we see, the influence of our votes, the candidates who win elections, the education we can access, the jobs we get is all underwritten by an invisible layer of math that few of us understand, or even notice. But whether we know it or not, our numeric literacy — whether we can speak the language of math — is a critical determinant of social and economic power. Through a mosaic of personal stories, expert interviews, and scenes of math transformation in action, “Counted Out” shows what’s at risk if we keep the status quo. Do we want an America in which most of us don’t consider ourselves “math people?” Where math proficiency goes down as students grow up? Or do we want a country where everyone can understand the math that undergirds our society — and can help shape it? The film’s voices include the late civil rights icon Robert Moses as well as Talithia Williams, associate professor of mathematics at Harvey Mudd University and TEDx speaker of “ Own Your Body’s Data ,” Julia Angwin, investigative journalist and founder of Proof , Steven Levitt, co-author of “Freakonomics.” Information Source: Counted Out Film | eventbrite
