Music for Wexford present the Sestina Ensemble - Saturday 26th April | St. Iberius' Church, Church of Ireland
Apr 26, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Wexford
Sestina Music Biography In 2011, a group of young singers from Ulster Youth Choir (now NYCNI) had the opportunity to work with internationally renowned conductor Paul McCreesh and countertenor Mark Chambers in preparation for a landmark Proms performance of Mendelssohn’s Elijah in London’s Royal Albert Hall. The singers were inspired by the experience of working alongside professional ensembles and soloists and decided to establish a Northern Irish ensemble with a focus on the development and mentoring of early-stage professional singers. And so, Sestina Music was born. Under the direction of Mark Chambers, Sestina Music has quickly developed into an early music ensemble with a reputation for excellence and authenticity in the performance of early music as well as a fresh and innovative approach to programming. A resident ensemble of Fisherwick Presbyterian Church, Belfast, the support and development of aspiring professional singers from Northern Ireland and Ireland is at the heart of Sestina Music’s activities. Our Next Generation Mentoring Programme provides an immersive educational experience for young performers at various stages of their training and careers, allowing them to develop their craft by working alongside world-class professionals. To date, Sestina Music's early-stage professionals have performed several stage works of Henry Purcell (The Fairy Queen (2013), King Arthur (2014) and Dido and Aeneas (2016)), and the ensemble features some of the finest specialist early music practitioners in the world. Sestina Music frequently collaborates with other ensembles for larger productions, including, His Majesty’s Sagbutts and Cornetts, The Monteverdi String Band (for their 2016 production of Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610), and Irish Baroque Orchestra for a production of Handel’s Theodora (2018). Sestina Music now boasts a reputation for artistic excellence and annually produces showcase performances such as ‘Carols at the Museum’ and touring productions such as ‘Mein Freund ist Mein’ - a semi-staged production featuring music of the Bach family - as well as collaborating with organisations such as the Irish Baroque Orchestra (Esther (2019) and Messiah (2019), and featuring in festivals and concert series such as East Cork Early Music Festival (2018) and the Barber Evening Concert Series (2020). Sestina Music’s debut recording - Master & Pupil - in partnership with Resonus Classics, was released in 2021. Programme: Suite of Airs de Violon Michel-Richard de Lalande Caprice Michel-Richard de Lalande Confitebor tibi Domine S.56 Michel-Richard de Lalande Concerto grosso in G minor, Op. 6, No. 8 Concerto pour la Nuit de Noël Published posthumously in 1714 Arcangelo Corelli Cantate Domino S.72 Michel-Richard de Lalande

CollegeSafe: Personal Security for Teens & College Students | Live Ready
Apr 29, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Wexford
Statistically, college is one of the most dangerous times in a young woman's life.
No one wants to be a victim. But far too many college students end up becoming just that.
1 in 4 college women will be sexually assaulted on campus
65% of attacks go unreported
75% of the time alcohol or drugs are involved
80% of rape victims suffer chronic physical or psychological problems over time
These statistics should shock you...they do me...but it doesn’t have to be this way.
With Live Ready® training, your young adults will develop the knowledge and skills needed to:
Avoid becoming a target;
Protect themselves, if needed; and
Fundamentally set personal boundaries (and enjoy their college years with confidence).
Their safety and your peace of mind are worth it.
COURSE HIGHLIGHTS
Personal security is a fundamental human need, but ultimately an individual responsibility. In the moment of truth, the “lifeguards” of society simply won’t be there to protect us. We are, in effect, on our own.
Yet violence is never random, and even the most desperate predator is careful in selecting his prey. All “Bad Guys” — from the street predator to those who use charm and persuasion to create opportunities to victimize — follow predictable patterns. You can identify their behavior in advance through a few easily spotted indicators — but only if you know what to look for.
This course will teach your teens specifically what to look for, and how to manage their own personal security - anywhere, anytime.
How to recognize warning indicators of danger, especially if you are being targeted by a "persuasion predator"
How to recognize and manage “interviews” that often precede an attack
What situational factors are critical to control, and how to never relinquish control over them
How to use improvised weapons such as pens, magazines, and cell phones as powerful force-multipliers to incapacitate an aggressor from close range
Defense against the most common grabs, holds, and chokes including how to get someone off you, instantly, who's pinning you to the ground
All Participants will receive a signed copy of Sam Rosenberg's book

What people are saying about this course
"Even though our daughter was a recruited rower, we still worried about her safety on an urban campus almost 1,000 miles away from home. Her sessions with Live Ready® equipped her with the knowledge to head off to college with confidence. She's already reported several situations where your training really made a difference."
-Roger M.
"I recently enrolled my 15 year old daughter and myself in a Live Ready program so that she could be introduced to some basic techniques in personal defense. The training was fantastic! After our brief introduction, I was so impressed that I enrolled my daughter and myself for more training.
Sam is an excellent instructor with a comprehensive understanding of human physiology and techniques that really work. What makes Live Ready unique is how the information is packaged and communicated so that
anyone
can absorb and retain what they learn. I have seen a my daughter's confidence improve after just a single session and we both really look forward to going to more training.
Live Ready works!"
-Julie H.
"During the fall, Sam Rosenberg presented a program at Hampton Middle School. This evening included workshops for all of the middle school students concerning healthy behaviors and good citizenship. Sam introduced self defense strategies to approximately one hundred and twenty middle school girls. The girls loved the program and many were talking about it the next school day. Also, there were many accolades from our faculty, parents and community about the program that was offered that evening to our middle school girls. Thanks Sam Rosenberg!!!"
