Qi Baishi: Inspiration in Ink | Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
May 3–Sep 28, 2025 (UTC-5)
Boston
Living in a time of civil and political turmoil, Qi Baishi (1864–1957) was renowned for his modernization of Chinese ink painting. Conveying rural sentiments with bold landscapes, lifelike animals and plants, and lively and amusing figures, Qi’s paintings of mundane objects and everyday life broke social and cultural barriers. His innovative experiments included the juxtaposition of vibrant colors against rich ink tones, a pronounced economy of form and composition, and vivid representations with revealing inscriptions. He also revitalized Chinese painting with expressive brushwork based on his calligraphic practice and seal carving. Qi is credited with transforming the traditional brush art of China’s educated elite into an expressionistic and abstract form that speaks clearly to the modern era.
The Visionary Art of Minnie Evans | Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
May 10–Oct 26, 2025 (UTC-5)
Boston
Over half a century, American artist Minnie Evans (1892–1987) created thousands of radiant and kaleidoscopic works of art inspired by vivid dreams and local landscapes in her native Wilmington, North Carolina. These imaginative, intricately detailed drawings and paintings merged her own inner world—her religious beliefs, interest in mythology, and study of history—with the natural environment that surrounded her.
Rituals for Remembering: María Magdalena Campos-Pons and Ana Mendieta | Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
Apr 12, 2025–Feb 15, 2026 (UTC-5)
Boston
This exhibition brings together works from the MFA’s collection by María Magdalena Campos-Pons (b. 1959) and Ana Mendieta (1948–1985) in the first focused look at these influential artists side by side. Though the two never met, their practices share a reckoning with displacement and exile from their homes in Cuba, a deep reverence for the land, and a transformative use of natural elements like water, earth, and fire. For both artists, memory, ritual, and spirituality animate their artworks across photography, film, video, drawing, sculpture, installation, and performance.
The Banner Project: Troy Montes Michie | Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
Jun 25, 2024–Jun 23, 2025 (UTC-5)
Boston
Through assemblage and juxtaposition, Troy Montes Michie (b. 1985) creates work centering the Black male body and considers how it has historically been marginalized, fetishized, idealized, and criminalized. Often in dialogue with the canon of collage, Michie investigates society’s understanding of race, gender, sexuality, and other fields of identity and power.
Deep Waters: Four Artists and the Sea | Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
Nov 9, 2024–Nov 9, 2025 (UTC-5)
Boston
Generations of artists have explored the beauties and terrors of the ocean, reflecting on the experiences of those who have lived and lost their lives among the waves. Weaving together artworks by four artists made over centuries and across the Atlantic, this exhibition follows a genealogical thread united by the sea. Echoes of John Singleton Copley’s Watson and the Shark (1778) reverberate in J. M. W Turner’s 1840 Slave Ship (Slavers Throwing Overboard the Dead and Dying, Typhoon Coming On), which itself has influenced art created in the 21st century.
Utopia, Dystopia: Tony Cokes and Oscar Muñoz | Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
Dec 14, 2024–Jun 22, 2025 (UTC-5)
Boston
“Utopia, Dystopia” presents two single-channel videos from the MFA collection by Tony Cokes (b. 1956) and Oscar Muñoz (b. 1951). Created in the last decade, the films grapple with the duality of utopia and dystopia, expressing the artists’ senses of how idealistic visions of society often collide with harsh realities. Utopian dreams can promise a future without oppression and celebrate freedom of expression, yet achieving these ideals frequently comes into conflict with underlying dystopian truths such as systems of control, state surveillance, and deep inequality.
Landscape and Labor Dutch Works on Paper in Van Gogh’s Time | Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
Dec 21, 2024–Jun 22, 2025 (UTC-5)
Boston
Although Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) is today perhaps the most famous Dutch artist of all, in his own time he was relatively little known, especially when compared to artists of the Hague School. This group, named for the city where many of its members trained and worked, was comprised of those who had different styles but shared a devotion to the depiction of everyday life, looking to the Dutch countryside for their subjects and themes. The Hague School artists achieved international fame, and in the early 1900s US collectors and museums—including the MFA—eagerly sought their works. But over the decades the group’s fame faded.

Witnessing Humanity: The Art of John Wilson | Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
Feb 8–Jun 22, 2025 (UTC-5)
Boston
Born in Roxbury, Massachusetts, John Wilson (1922–2015) is one of Boston’s most esteemed artists. His work, made over the span of 60 years, continues to resonate with the persistent realities of disenfranchisement, racial prejudice, and social injustice.“Witnessing Humanity: The Art of John Wilson” is the largest-ever exhibition of Wilson’s work, co-organized by the MFA and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Featuring approximately 110 works by the artist in a wide range of media—prints, drawings, paintings, sculpture, and illustrated books—the exhibition explores the many ways Wilson called attention to racial, social, and economic injustices through his art. Challenging both biases and omissions, Wilson explored subjects that include anti-Black violence, the civil rights movement, labor, and family life—with a particular focus on fatherhood. Portraits like Julie and Becky (1956–78) and his Young Americans suite of life-size portraits (about 1972–75) celebrate the essential humanity of Wilson’s family and friends, while other works like Deliver Us from Evil (1943) and The Trial (1951) depict the heinous impacts of systemic prejudice and racism. Wilson’s work speaks to shared experiences, while also displaying his personal search for identity as an artist, Black man, parent, and American.

Perfect for young designers and fans of all things creative! TFA CAMP ARCHITECTURE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Where will TFA Architecture Camp take place? TFA Architecture Camp will take place at TFA’s Center for Architecture and Design at 633 S. Boston Ave in downtown Tulsa. Because TFA is located withing a short walking distance to some of Tulsa’s most notable architecture, camp curriculum will include walking field trips to view the interiors and exteriors of notable Tulsa buildings. Campers will be accompanied by a minimum of two adults while walking downtown. What is your enrollment limit? Because we are committed to maintaining camp sizes that offer individualized instruction and allow students plenty of time to work, camps are limited to 15 enrollees per week with two adults. If your child is interested in attending architecture camp, we suggest registering sooner rather than later because we expect camps slots to fill up fast. Do you offer scholarships? We do have a limited number of need based scholarships for students who attend Tulsa Public Schools. Please email us at amber@tulsaarchitecture.com to apply. What grades do your camps serve? This year, our camps are exclusively for students entering grades 3-6. Do you offer a discount for TFA Members? Yes! TFA members receive a 25% discount on camp tuition. Do you offer before and after care? Unfortunately, TFA is not equipped to offer before and after care for Summer 2025 camps. Are lunches and snacks provided? We ask that students bring a non-perishable sack lunch each day that does not contain peanuts or peanut products. Afternoon snacks such as individually packaged goldfish crackers and veggie straws, etc. will be provided by TFA each day. *You will be able to indicate allergies and other dietary needs as part of camp enrollment paperwork. What should my child wear to camp? We recommend that campers wear cool and comfortable clothes that can get a little messy. Campers will be spending time indoors in an air-conditioned environment as well as outdoor exploring downtown Tulsa architecture. Students will also be using a variety of materials to construct their projects. We recommend that students wear sunscreen daily so they are protected when outdoors. Is there anything my child needs to bring to camp each day? We ask that your child bring a peanut free sack lunch and a refillable water bottle to camp each day. If your child does not like goldfish crackers or veggie straws, you may also pack a peanut free snack of your child’s preference. How will pick up/drop off work? Caregivers should plan to arrive 10 minutes early each day to sign campers in. All children should be walked inside the Tulsa Foundation for Architecture Center for Architecture and Design (633 S. Boston Ave) to be signed in by their caregivers. Pick up will occur each day inside the Center for Architecture and Design. Anyone picking up a child will be asked to verify their identity by showing their state-issued ID or driver’s license the first time they pick up. Can someone besides me pick my child up from camp? You may indicate who you would like to pick your child up when completing camp paperwork. Anyone picking up a child will be required to verify their identity by showing a state-issued ID or driver’s license the first time they pick up. What if my child needs to take medication during the day? Please bring your child’s medication in a plastic bag, labeled with your child’s first and last name. Medication will be stored in a locked cabinet and TFA staff will administer medication per your instructions. Please note that TFA does not have a nurse onsite to administer medication. Do you offer refunds? Refunds are only offered if TFA has to cancel camp due to unforeseen circumstances. Exchanges may be possible if there is a camp the following week with open enrollment. Believers: Artists and the Shakers | Boston
Feb 13–Aug 3, 2025 (UTC-5)
Boston
Since arriving in America from England 250 years ago, the Shakers — a Christian sect of pacifists — have occupied a unique place in the American national identity. Also known as the United Society of Believers in Christ’s Second Appearing, the Shakers ascribe to values of communal living, celibacy, shared property, and gender and racial equality, and they are widely recognized for their simple living, architecture, music, and furniture. The Shakers have captured the imagination of countless artists since at least the early twentieth century, when ideas about perfection, elegance, and practicality associated with Shaker life and material culture took hold. These ideas entered more strongly into the American consciousness following a string of influential exhibitions and books, many of them organized and authored by collectors of Shaker furniture.

I-90 Project: Do we need so much asphalt? | Josephine A. Fiorentino Community Center
Jun 5, 2025 (UTC-4)
Boston
The Allston Multimodal Project entails straightening the Mass Pike, building a new commuter rail stop, and enabling a new neighborhood to be built on what is now an abandoned rail yard.
There is widespread support for the benefits this project can bring in numerous ways.
An area of contention remains what to do in the “throat” area between Boston University and the Charles River, where MassDOT (see rendering) proposes expanding roadway to the river’s edge, and installing the Paul Dudley White bike/pedestrian path in the river, harming river health, eliminating space for trees and parkland, and reducing flood storage capacity in an already flood-prone area.
Charles River Watershed Association has been a member of the Allston Multimodal Project Task Force since its inception in 2014. We strongly support increased mobility options and sustainability for those traveling to and through Boston, but have consistently voiced concern with project designs that entail harm to the Charles.

Jun 5, 2025 (UTC-5)
Boston
The nineteenth century was a time of rapid growth and development for the game of “base ball,” and Boston Red Stocking players George Wright and Albert Spalding were right in the thick of it. These two young men, the first superstars of the professional game, won the hearts of a country in search of a unifying spirit after a devastating civil war. Join us as author Jeffrey Orens breathes fresh energy into baseball’s beginnings with this captivating tale of two vibrant personalities whose friendly rivalry was integral to the rise of the professional game. While they came from starkly different backgrounds—Albert was a young, gangly pitcher from the country’s rural heartland and George the consummate athlete from the New York City area—their captivating performances on the field, along with their promotion of the game and of sports equipment, fed the public’s insatiable appetite for leisure-time pursuits and helped grow professional baseball to unprecedented heights. George Wright and Albert Spalding’s stories are masterfully woven together to paint a sweeping picture of the early days of professional baseball, the evolution of sports as a business, and the advancement of sports equipment and the sporting goods industry. Their rise as players and businessmen mirrored the rise of a nation that would lead the world in the coming century. Jeffrey Orens is the author of The Soul of Genius: Marie Curie, Albert Einstein and the Meeting that Changed the Course of Science. He is a member of the Society for American Baseball Research and his work has appeared in History Magazine, True West Magazine, and other historical publications. Orens resides in New Jersey.
