In this workshop with John Davies and Rob Swinney, maths, science and engineering come together to show how humankind has reached the stars and beyond. Using the work of three great thinkers, Al-Karismi, Newton and Tsiolkovsky, students will use mathematical equations to work out all manner of things from how fast a skateboard travels to how long it will take to fly to distant stars. A truly astronomical day!
This workshop is strictly for 12–14 year-olds
and will include a 30 minute lunch break. Students should bring lunch and a drink.

Holiday workshops: Extract your own DNA (ages 12-14) | The Royal Institution

Students will extract their own DNA and walk away with a small piece of it in a necklace for them to wear.
Working in a real science lab and using their own cheek cells, students will extract their DNA using enzymes and use ethanol to separate it from the solution, ready to transfer into their own necklace.
This workshop is a great early introduction to enzymes and DNA.
This workshop is strictly for ages 12-14 only.
