Art of Comedy Stand-Up Beginners Course | Club 27

Jun 28–Jun 29, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Plymouth
Arts
Comedy
Course Timings: Session one: Saturday 28th June 2025, midday - 4pm Session two: Sunday 29th June 2025, midday - 4pm (The course timings may slightly vary based on how many students sign up) Optional Showcase Spot: Sunday 28th June, 7:30pm - 9:30pm The Course Over this two-day course, you will learn how to come up with comedy material, to structure and edit your writing, connect with and perform it to an audience. At the end of the course you'll have the option to perform in a showcase in front of a live audience with your new stand-up set. Your host and tutor will be Nik Coppin, an internationally renowned professional stand-up comedian and producer, who over the last 20 years he has performed with the likes of Michael McIntyre, Sarah Millican, Jimmy Carr, Mickey Flanagan, Reginald D Hunter and Henning Wehn, as well being a regular at many of the major comedy fringes and festivals such as Edinburgh, Adelaide, Perth, Brighton, Melbourne, New Zealand, Singapore and Hollywood and performed all over Europe, Australia, Southeast Asia and North America. In 2015, whilst touring in Australia, Nik was asked to pass on the knowledge he has acquired from his many experiences as a globally well-travelled comedian. This inspired him to begin doing his own courses and workshops so he could start people on their comedy journey, build confidence and get an insight into the world of live stand-up comedy. Since then, as well as the touring with shows, he has taught at classes all over the UK, Europe and Southeast Asia. His professionalism, hard work and dedication to stand-up comedy and producing shows also saw him recently win the ‘Spirit of the Fringe’ award at the Brighton Fringe 2024. Students will also be treated to a few funny anecdotes of Nik's trekking around the world with his idiosyncratic, distinctive style of doing things. So whether you want to be the next big thing in comedy or impress at your next company meeting, Nik Coppin can give you the skills you need to set you on your journey. Reviews “Nik is a brilliant tutor. The course was good value, informative and very educational. Nik's friendly approach calmed any nerves we had, it was obvious he knows his stuff, he had the ability to analyse our work very effectively. Nik is very experienced and kindly shared many anecdotes and experiences with the class. I've come away learning a few new processes and a good insight to the stand-up industry. - Raj Kukadia (London) “The comedy course with Nik was absolutely fantastic. In just 2 days I went from an quivering anxious on-stage mess to a confident new stand-up at the final showcase. Some people even laughed! Nik’s course has given me the confidence to continue and perform at more shows. I would thoroughly recommend Nik’s courses to anyone thinking about getting into stand-up comedy” - Lucy Amans (Costa Del Sol, Spain) “Amazing course. Had a lot of fun. I learnt some great tips about comedy that will help me far into the future. Nik’s energy is as electric as Jamie Foxx in Spider-Man. You’d be a fool to not grab the opportunity to do this course. You’ll meet some awesome people, I mean what else can you ask for?” - Liam Wilcox (Brighton) I had the pleasure of attending Nik Coppin’s Comedy Workshop, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in stand-up comedy. Nik provides comprehensive guidance on everything from developing material to refining your stage presence. Having some experience in stand-up myself, I found the workshop invaluable in giving me a fresh perspective on the writing process, allowing me to generate new material more effectively. It’s also an excellent crash course in public speaking for those looking to build confidence and improve their delivery. Nik brings a wealth of experience and deep knowledge of the craft. Beginners will discover how to develop their unique comedic voice, while seasoned performers will gain new insights into audience engagement. Whether you're new to stand-up or looking to refine your skills, this workshop is a fantastic opportunity to learn from a true professional - Mike Hendry (Inverness) Nik’s course was a really fun 2 days. I laughed from start to finish and met some great like minded people. I learnt so much about the comedy industry, gigs and the circuit. The best thing was how generous Nik is with his input, experience and time. His advice and tutoring has taken me from an unsure total novice to confident amateur wanting more stage time in just one weekend. I have learnt so much about writing, editing, performing and what I can bring. Do yourself a favour; book in this course - Charlotte Madden (Brighton) Recently went to his stand-up course for beginners at a point in my life where I was really struggling and all I can say is DO IT!!! No matter where you are in your life, how shy you are or how funny you think you could be you'll take something precious away from this course. I felt like I was meeting myself for the first time and would happily do it all over again. Also Niks standup shows are hilarious so if you can support this man in anyway do it as I promise you won't regret it ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Iain Donald (Inverness) Information Source: Art of Comedy | eventbrite

June 2025 Women's & Teen Girls 6 Hour Self-Defense Session | Fighting Spirit Personal Safety

Jun 7, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Plymouth
Sports & Fitness
The Womens and Teens Self-Defense Program is a comprehensive approach to safety training that includes awareness, risk reduction, posture and verbal skills as well as physical skills. It is meant to provide OPTIONS in the critical moments in which your personal space has been violated. It also aims to prevent assault against females and build confidence in their ability to stay safe. By cultivating the defensive mindset and the desire to fight for life, this program helps empower the female student from the inside out. This dynamic program allows the student to learn skill sets with a hands-on approach. Skills are demonstrated and explained, practiced through repetition with and without padded targets and are reinforced with physical simulation practice. Simulation practice means students use skills they have learned against a padded attacker with full force. This helps them realize their physical power and also reinforces their need to verbalize initially and throughout the exercise. Students are not left alone in any of these exercises and are coached through each step which provides a supportive environment for all women including those that have survived assault. This is a 1-day course, with 6 hours of both classroom instruction and practical work on the mat. Class is scheduled from 10:00am-4:00pm . Please note that refunds ARE accepted until one week prior to the session. There are NO REFUNDS for any reason less than one week out of the program.
