Set in the post-industrial town of East Gladness, Connecticut and following cycles of history, memory, and time, the novel explores the profound ways in which love, labor, and loneliness form the bedrock of American life, and what it means to exist on the fringes of society and to reckon with the wounds that haunt our collective soul. Are you ready for some great Jiu Jitsu? because we are! Girls in Gis is a community of women and girls in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that come together through donation based training events. They are hosted, instructed, and attended only by women and girls. It's our time to come together! All ages and skill levels from any academy affiliation are welcome to attend. No experience required. Our events are designed for 100% participation, but do allow chaperones to accompany underage participants as spectators. Our events are donation based in order to provide equal opportunity to everyone. Your donations provide paid teaching opportunities for our guest instructor(s) and help to expand and make Girls in Gis programs such as our events, our leadership program and instructional training programs and our scholarships possible. If you are not able to make a donation please contact us and we will work with you so that you are able to participate. At that time she travelled to Brazil for school and decided to practice bjj there too. By sheer luck she ended up at the school where Comprido, Jacare, the Viera brothers, Caio Terra, and other world class athletes trained bjj together. She fell in love with the sport and have remained friends to this day. She earned a blue belt from Comprido before continuing her journey to blackbelt at Luiz’s Palhares’ school in Jacksonville, FL. Amber Kent is a dedicated 8th grade Mathematics and Algebra teacher and a proud Brown Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, training since December 2016. She and her husband, Ramey—also a Brown Belt—own and instruct at Gracie South Jiu-Jitsu of Pearl, where they share their passion for martial arts with the community. Amber especially enjoys helping kids and women learn self-defense and build confidence both on and off the mats. She is the proud mom of four daughters: MeriEvelyn, Mia, Kamryn, and Emory—two of whom, Kamryn and Emory, also train Jiu-Jitsu, making it a true family tradition. COST: $20 Min Donation.
