About the Class
: Welcome to Lancaster Improv Players' 201 class! This 8-week long course focuses on the more advanced skills of long-form Improv. Students will learn skills which include game of a scene, second beats, heightening, and advanced character work. This class focuses on teaching a ton of scene work skills and will help improvisers think beyond the scene they are in. The class ends with a graduation show where the students can show their friends and family the skills learned. This class does require Improv 101 as a prerequisite or director approval. Sign ups end Monday 5/5 at noon!
Class Schedule
: This class runs for two and a half (2.5) hours for eight (8) sessions on Wednesdays from 7pm-9:30pm. Those dates are 5/7, 5/14, 5/21, 5/28, 6/4, 6/11, 6/18 and 6/25. The Class Show is on Saturday 6/28 at 5pm! To be eligible to pass the class and participate in the class show, a student must attend at least six of the eight weeks.
About the Teacher
: This class will be taught by Shannon Maguire. She has been performing for 10 years, the first 4 with her college team, Mad Cow Improv from Elizabethtown college. For the past 6 years, Shannon has been performing with Lancaster Improv Players on various teams, as well as coaching now-retired teams. She has completed LIPs Improv 101 and 201 class.
Scholarships:
Some scholarships are available to partially or fully cover the cost of the stated class fee. For additional information, please reach out to finance@lancasterimprovplayers.org with your request at least a week prior to the start date of the class.

Valerie is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and the Chief Operations Officer (COO) for Move Forward Counseling. She has more than 20 years of experience as a therapist, supervisor, and manager of programs in mental health and substance abuse treatment programs. Valerie approaches therapy from a strengths-based perspective and uses a variety of interventions, from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
Valerie is originally from Schenectady, NY, and moved to Pennsylvania in 2013. She received her undergraduate degree at Syracuse University and her graduate degree from the State University of New York. When she is not working, Valerie enjoys spending time with family and friends, including her two dogs, Hugo and Addie.

Emily Nixon
works as a registered nurse in outpatient women’s health. She is currently working on her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree at Messiah University to become a family practice nurse practitioner. In 2022 she walked the Camino de Santiago from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, France to Santiago de Compostela, Spain - a total of 500 miles - with her dad. She’s a Member and volunteer with The Row House and enjoys singing, biking, and discovering new places.
Laura Pauls - Thomas
was born and raised in Lancaster County and studied Communications and Spanish at Eastern University. Laura has worked in nonprofit communications roles with Mennonite Central Committee (MCC)'s East Coast region since 2017. Laura advocates for safe, convenient and inviting transportation options for people in Lancaster through by volunteering with the Global Shapers Lancaster Hub and the board of directors of The Common Wheel, among a few other organizations.

Tipple Masterclass - Bartending 101 | Tipple Cocktails

Learn the basics of cocktail-making with the assistance of our expert mixologists. We'll teach you 3 signature drinks that every bartender should know.
We're filling the whole ground floor with pop-up bars so we can all make the drinks together, we'll discuss the history of the drinks you make, as well as the spirits that go in them. After you've made each drink there will be some time to enjoy your creations.
After the masterclass is finished, you could stay and drink the Sunday evening away with us, or even order a deli board from our neighbours at Runner Duck Wine Room.
Want to get to drinking straight away? Add a welcome glass of prosecco to your ticket for £4.50.
