Fukuyama
The Tomonoura Bentenjima Fireworks Festival, held near Bentenjima in Tomo-machi, Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, is a historic event that originated from the "Benten Festival", a Shinto ritual held since the Edo period to pray for safe sailing, and is a beloved annual event to welcome the arrival of early summer. Approximately 2,000 fireworks will be launched, including starburst fireworks and fireworks in the shape of marine life such as squid and octopus, lighting up the night sky and the waters of the Seto Inland Sea. Before the fireworks start, local residents sing the song "Tomonoura Aiyabushi", and shamisen and fan dances add a unique atmosphere to the venue. The fireworks are reflected on the sea, with Bentenjima's Benten Paradise as the background, creating a dreamy atmosphere, and the bustling scene of spectators in yukata is full of the unique charm of the port city of Tomonoura.
