More details to come! FAR SIDE OF REVENGE: Prince Brian Boru, Future King of Ireland
In this sweeping historical novel, the life of Brian Boru is traced from his childhood as the youngest son of a deposed clan king. From fleeing the destruction of his home with his older brothers to rebuilding their village in the shadows of fierce Viking raiders, scheming rival clans, and tenuous allies, Brian grows as his brother's warrior prince. Bloody medieval battles, political marriages, infidelity, and love forge the complex man who must challenge his own brother for the leadership of the clan. Unifying the bloody-minded, revenge-seeking factions of the southern parts of Ireland is the first step toward a remarkable goal-someday unifying the entire island and driving out the invading Norsemen. ANNE DEAN Anne Labouisse Dean grew up in New Orleans, the city she still calls home. After ten years away in the east, earning her BA in Political Science at Wellesley College, and PhD in psychology from Catholic U. in Washington, DC, she returned to New Orleans to raise a family and teach developmental psychology at the University of New Orleans. In the meantime, she trained to become a clinical psychoanalyst at the New Orleans Psychoanalytic Institute, and practiced both in New Orleans and Eugene, OR, where she and her husband now live with no pets. In the late nineties, as a visiting scholar at Queen's University, Belfast, Anne and her husband conducted an ethnographic study of the Northern Ireland Troubles. Irish history, Brian Boru, and the continuing but failed efforts of subsequent Irish heroes over the last millennium to unite the whole island under Irish governance, has intrigued her ever since.

An Evening with Vaishnavi Patel | Blue Cypress Books
Jun 2, 2025 (UTC-6)ENDED
New Orleans
A can’t-miss event for readers of feminist fantasy, historical fiction, and retellings of epic proportions. Join us for an evening with bestselling author Vaishnavi Patel as she celebrates the release of her highly anticipated novel, Ten Incarnations of Rebellion. Building on the acclaim of her debut Kaikeyi, Patel returns with a powerful reimagining that blends myth, history, and revolution in a sweeping epic rooted in South Asian lore. The event will include a conversation (partner TBD), author Q&A, and book signing. “A meticulous interrogation of the mythmaking, contradictions, and sacrifices of revolution . . . Patel never writes the easy story; she writes the infuriating, frustrating, necessary story.”—R. F. Kuang, #1New York Timesbestselling author ofBabelVaishnavi Patel is the New York Times bestselling author of Kaikeyi and Goddess of the River. Her novels have been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Condé Nast Traveler, Bustle, and more. She is a lawyer specializing in civil rights litigation, including issues of gender and racial justice. Ten Incarnations of Rebellion is her third novel. From theNew York Timesbestselling author ofKaikeyicomes an epic and daring novel that imagines an alternate version of 1960s India that was never liberated from the British, and a young woman’s struggle to change the tides of history. Kalki Divekar grows up a daughter of Kingston—a city the British built on the ashes of Bombay. The older generation, including her father, have been lost to the brutal hunt for rebels. Young men are drafted to fight wars they will never return from. And the people of her city are more interested in fighting one another than facing their true oppressors.
When tragedy strikes close to home, Kalki begins to play a dangerous game with small acts of resistance, tempered by cautious, level-headed Yashu and fortified by Fauzia, whose dreams of the future awaken Kalki’s heart. Together, they found Kingston’s new independence movement, obtaining jobs working for the British while secretly planning to destroy the empire from the inside out. But one wrong move means certain death, and when facing threats from all quarters, Kalki must decide whether it’s more important to be a hero or to survive.
Set over the course of a decade and told as ten moments from Kalki’s life that mirror the Dashavatara, the ten avatars of Vishnu, Ten Incarnations of Rebellion is a sweeping, deeply felt speculative novel of empowerment, friendship, self-determination, and the true meaning of freedom. If you have a service dog, please let us know ahead of time so we can put away our devious shop cat.
