A SÉANCE FOR THE SUMMER | The Rose Hill
Jun 14, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Terrace
It pleases the Séance mightily to be hosting semi/modular psychonauts Teleplasmiste, the exploratory cosmic electronics project helmed by Mark O Pilkington (Luminous Foundation, Strange Attractor Press) and Michael J York (Coil, Cyclobe, The Utopia Strong) since 2015. 'Teleplasmiste’s cleverly layered soundscapes are deep and immersive. They plunge the listener through a psychic wall into what seems like infinite space.' Tedium House https://bloodstereo.bandcamp.com/album/bicker-sweet Near-weekly Séancechannelings have occurred variously via the Repeater Radio, Slack City and Radio Reverb motherships for 15 years. Born from a series of all-day musical pub sessions in the mid noughties and named after the 1964 Bryan Forbes film Séance on a Wet Afternoon, each show is a digressive wallow in the astral hinterlands of esoteric pop, buried soundtrack treasure, new and old electronic grot, folk musics psych and trad, freeform misshapes, arcane dub effluvium, modern composition, covetable new releases and whatever else happens to be punching their ticket at the time. When operating as a production unit The Séance has contributed tracks to A Year In The Country alongside remix work for various valued compadres. It will do some more of all this at some point once it pulls its finger out. Pete Wiggs is otherwise available as one third of Saint Etienne and Dem (aka James Papademetrie) isn't. A full archive of shows can be found at www.the-seance.com

🎤 Kelly Mac: Pimp My Son! - Trial Show 🎤 Be part of the miracle! Award-winning comedian Kelly Mac is back with her latest show, Pimp My Son! – a raw, raucous, and pop-your-bra look at middle-aged life in the gig economy, and why her youngest son is living the dream on charm alone. Off the back of her Best Comedy win at Newcastle Fringe 2023, Kel’s not pulling any punches. At 55, she’s broke, sober, and still hustling. Meanwhile her son seems to be shagging half of Europe with the other half lined up eagerly waiting, and for free, no less. If children really are the future, it’s time for Kel’s youngest to finance hers. It's a comedy hour that’s equal parts brutal honesty and belly laughs – with a side of pure grit. Expect wit sharper than a knife, stories that’ll make you laugh and wince at the same time, and an unapologetic look at the chaos of life, love, and surviving marriage with the same bloke for 34 years. 💥 “Australia’s next comedy genius” - Tim Ferguson, Doug Anthony All Stars 💥 “Mac delivers. The laughs kept coming from the rapt audience” - NOTA 💥 “Pushes a joke further than thought possible” - Theatre Travels Come for the laughs, stay for the no-BS storytelling, leave for a big night out – Kelly Mac is the perfect amuse douche! 💥 FAQs about shows at Big Fork Theatrebigforktheatre.com/big-fork-faqs Big Fork Theatre is Brisbane's home of improv & comedy, located centrally in Fortitude Valley. Jack Knight's not well, as evidenced by the way he looks, the way he smells, and the things he says and believes in. By his own admission, as well as a jury of his peers, he’s a horrible little man with a garbage brain. Despite this, Jack has somehow risen to be one of Queensland's cult favourite comedy acts, and currently lives in a house without any wheels. A much sought-after talent in the Sunshine State, Jack fits in performances in between causing fight-or-flight responses down at public parks. Be sure to catch one of Australian comedy’s cult favourite acts live in the flesh before he finally drives his unregistered van into the ocean.

I've got a terrible feeling about this show. Like, somehow…the whole thing is doomed. I've got this recurring dream where I'm on stage, thousands of miles from home and the crowd has turned on me.
