NW Trail Sisters Women’s Shuttle Day at Ravens Ridge - Supported by Fat Tire Farm Summary: Come shuttle Ravens Ridge with NW Trail Sisters! Test the waters of DH racing in an effort to encourage more women to sign up for Fat Tire Farm’s Raven’s Ridge downhill race in June! When: Sunday March 30, 2025. 9:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Where: Ravens Ridge trailhead is in the Tillamook State Forest near Timber, Oregon, just past Reeher's Camp. Visit trailforks.com/trails/ravens-ridge/ for more information. What: This is a one-day shuttle event at Ravens Ridge, a 1.7 mile trail with 1,200 feet of descent designed to be a DH practice race course. It’s steeper on the upper half with some root sections while the lower half is less steep as it winds through the clearcut. There are several optional jumps, some small mandatory drops, and swoopy sections. Descent times can be anywhere between 6 and10 minutes. The shuttle road is 4 miles and very tough to climb on a bike. Hence the shuttle :) Here’s a course preview. Why: Last year, 60 men and 6 women participated in this race. Let’s balance that out a little this year! The purpose of this shuttle day is to help build confidence among the DH-curious, and ultimately to encourage women and trans women to sign up for the race! What better way to do that than to practice with a group of badass, supportive ladies who are in the same boat? What’s in it for you: You will get multiple laps on the course – and we’ll do the driving (no dark, scary box trucks, don’t worry). We’ll load and unload your bikes, feed you afterward, shower you with praise, and cheer you on as you get comfy with the course. This event is limited to 20 lucky riders, so sign up early. What this isn’t: This is not a skills clinic. You will be riding with other women of similar skill levels, but there will not be any formal instruction. Skill level: You should be comfortable on (and enjoy!) steeper, technical terrain, but maybe you’ve never done an enduro or DH race before and you’re ready to push your boundaries a little. You’ve ridden and enjoyed trails like Fear and Loaming, Bob’s Your Uncle, Sad Birthday, Cold Creek, and Defibrillator. If you walk the top of Bob’s main line or anything on Fear and Loaming, you may be a little tentative, but we do encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and take the opportunity to ride this trail repeatedly with us and dial in your technique. Equipment: A modern full-face mountain bike helmet and modern full-suspension mountain bike in good working order are required. We also recommend knee and elbow pads. Who’s driving: Our friends at Fat Tire Farm will be shuttling 10 folks in their van. Two other trail sisters will be generously driving others up in their vehicles. Cost: There is a cost, but we have kept it low compared with other shuttle days so not to put barriers up while trying to break them down. Your $45 goes right back to the shuttle drivers for gas, and to Trail Sisters so we can continue hosting rad events like this.
