6:00PM door - 7:00 show - 19+ Poetic reflections on a world gone stark raving mad Irish Times Andy White stops in Guelph during his 'Good Luck I Hope You Make it' tour which takes him to Italy in February, Canada in March and UK/Ireland in May/June. Andy has performed in Guelph a number of times, solo and with Stephen Fearing as Fearing & White and has also performed at Hillside Festival. Andy White is a Belfast singer-songwriter whose first EP Religious Persuasion and 1986 debut album Rave on Andy White kick-started a career which includes twenty albums, two books of poetry and a novel. Writing with Peter Gabriel, forming ALT with Tim Finn and Liam O Maonlai, touring the world many times over with his acoustic guitar and winning Ireland’s top music awards, Andy has lived in Belfast, Dublin, Switzerland and, currently, Melbourne. The event starts at 8:30pm with an open mic, followed by a feature poet set and an interactive poetry slam competition, where one winning poet takes home $100. SLAM RULES Only original writing can be performedNo costumes, props or musical accompanimentsPoets have 3 minutes and a grace period of 10 secondsCome prepared with 2 poems, the top poets from the first round move on to the second round​Anyone can sign up and members of the audience are selected to be judges at the slam, assigning each poetry performance a score from 0 to 10. There are no AODA-standard washrooms.Audience space includes low-top tables and chairs/booth seating, high-top tables and chairs, bar stools, and standing room. Seats are limited, first come first served. Organizers are happy to reserve or find seats for patrons for accessibility reasons.There are two steps up to the stage. Poets can either use a wired microphone on the stage or a wireless microphone from anywhere in the room.The space can be loud.
