Copying a Still Life of Chardin with Kevin McCarty Join us for a unique opportunity to learn from Jean Simeon Chardin through the talented artist, Kevin McCarty, at the Cincinnati Art Club. Chardin is considered the French master of still life. In this in-person event, Kevin will introduce Chardin with Chardin's Still Life with Carafe Silver Goblet and Fruit. He will guide participants through the process of recreating this Chardin masterpiece or the student's creation, inspired by this renowned master artist. This hands-on workshop is perfect for art enthusiasts looking to hone their skills and/or gain insight into the techniques used by this master. Inspiration of Monet's Haystacks at Sunset with Kevin McCarty Saturday March 1, 2025, 12 Noon to 4 PM Deadline to reigister: Feb. 26, 2025 Join us for a special event at the Cincinnati Art Club where artist Kevin McCarty will guide you through finding your inspiration/s from Monet's iconic painting, Haystacks at Sunset. Explore techniques, colors, and emotions behind this masterpiece in person. Don't miss this unique opportunity to delve into the world of Monet with a talented artist by your side! Haystacks at Sunset by Claude Monet, is a great representation of his Haystack series! Come to this class to explore one of Claude Monet’s famed and majestic paintings of grain stacks. These paintings are considered to be an entryway to Modernism and Abstract Expressionism, with their focus on simple shapes, variations of light, and intensity of color depending on the season. Monet’s rectangles and triangles paved the way for Abstract Expressionistic shapes, such as those of Mark Rothko. Put your own spin on Impressionism in this class. Learn to break down the prismatic colors of Monet’s palette and reassemble them in your own inimitable way on canvas. Practice creating diagonal swaths of light, imitate the gilded and burnished surface of the stacks, and walk away with your own version of Monet’s grain stacks in the snow. ALL in one afternoon! NOTE: Kevin will provide the canvas and the acrylic paints for this workshop. Just bring yourself and possibly register a friend to join you! He has obtained first- hand knowledge from traveling the U.S. and Europe and has extended his contemporary work into abstract expressionism. On Friday, March 7, Manifest Drawing Center will welcome artist Emil Robinson to our Central Parkway facility, where he will be conducting a 3-hour public demonstration of his painting technique and process (includes a 30-minute intermission). Emil will discuss each phase of his painting process while completing a painting in front of the audience. All attendees are encouraged to ask questions throughout the development of the artwork. The demo is the introductory part of Robinsons' latest workshop with Manifest Drawing Center – Light As Subject: Color and Material Reality In Painting. These tickets are specifically for the general public not enrolled in the workshop. Learn more and register for the full workshop at: www.manifestdrawingcenter.org About the Instructor: Emil Robinson received his master of fine arts degree from the University of Cincinnati in 2006 and his bachelor of arts from Centre College in Danville Kentucky in 2003. He has taught as a professor of art and design for almost twenty years. In 2007 he received a grant from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation which allowed him to spend six months painting in London. In 2009, he was a prize winner in the Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. Recently Emil has been chosen for solo exhibitions in London and the Taft Museum of Art here in Cincinnati. Robinson maintains his own studio in Cincinnati Ohio and exhibits his paintings widely. Manifest's mission is to stand for quality in the visual arts, as well as the importance of creative research, meaningful and accessible art-based experiences for the public, deep learning, and the rigorous documentation of exceptional art for posterity. Our Drawing Center promotes and explores drawing, photography, and related activities as rich and culturally significant art forms through the pursuit of educational hands-on activities focused on visual literacy, critical thinking, and skill development. Manifest's new facility, M1 at 3464 Central Parkway, provides multiple studio classrooms, private lesson space, a darkroom, a film processing room, and a multi-purpose lecture and class meeting space as well as on-site parking, grounds, and exterior spaces in which to relax, discuss, and make art.
