Crowden Horseshoe: Black Hill & Laddow Rocks Guided Trail Run - 9 miles Join Finding The Fells for a mixed terrain run of the Crowden Horseshoe. This is a shorter route but still has some steep inclines to get your legs burning. Ideal for: any runners capable of running the full distance (this event isn't aimed at beginner runners). Pace will be sociable with plenty of pausing to admire the views. The first half of this route can be quite wet and boggy a lot of the time, so expect wet feet regardless of the weather! Distance & Elevation: 9 miles /1,600ft Terrain: Rocky trails, wet moorland, flagstone paths and some short rocky descents. Required kit: off road/grippy running shoes essential, along with buff, waterproof jacket, snacks, water and any personal meds and running pack. Dry socks/footwear for the finish recommended. Pour la troisième fois de son existence de femme de diplomate, Hélène Hoppenot (1894-1990) revient vivre en Suisse, car le général de Gaulle y a nommé comme ambassadeur, son mari, Henri Hoppenot. « Un Berne d’attente puis beaucoup mieux », lui promet le Général. Il y restera 7 ans avant d’être nommé représentant permanent à l’O.N.U. À Berne, se mêlent les rituels protocolaires, qui ennuient Hélène, et les brillantes manifestations culturelles (expositions, concerts, théâtre, conférences) qu’elle organise avec audace. Elle suit les péripéties de la politique française et internationale de ces débuts de la Guerre froide, depuis la victoire des Alliés, la mort de Hitler, les procès de Pétain, le « terrible vieillard », et de Pierre Laval, les bombes à Hiroshima et Nagasaki, la venue de Winston Churchill à Berne, l’affaire de l’Exodus, les grèves de 1947 en France, Mao Tsé-toung… – et quantité de faits vécus depuis la coulisse, décryptés et entrecoupés des incessantes rumeurs du Quai d’Orsay… Photographe de talent, elle voit alors ses photographies publiées et reconnues. Équipée d’un Rolleiflex et de son passeport diplomatique, elle voyage en Italie (1948), en Tunisie (1950 et 1951) et en Grèce (1951). En février 1950, Henri et Hélène prennent en amitié Romain Gary, alors au seuil de sa carrière diplomatique et littéraire, retrouvant le plaisir de frayer avec un diplomate féru de littérature et de poésie, comme le furent leurs amis Paul Claudel ou Saint-John Perse. Béatrice Mousli est la fille de Marie France Mousli, l’éditrice des 4 tomes du Journal, décédée prématurément. Elle enseigne la littérature à l’Université de Californie du Sud, à Los Angeles, où elle dirige aussi le centre d’Excellence / Centre franco-américain (Ambassade de France), qu’elle a fondé en 2004. Elle a publié de nombreux ouvrages d’histoire littéraire (biographies de Susan Sontag, Valery Larbaud, Max Jacob, Philippe Soupault. Elle prépare actuellement la biographie d’Hélène Hoppenot, projet originellement prévu à quatre mains avec Marie France Mousli. Elle s’occupe également du dépôt des dernières archives familiales et diplomatiques des Hoppenot, qui viendront rejoindre l’ensemble conservé aux Archives diplomatiques. Marc Mousli a été cadre supérieur à la SNCF, enseignant au CNAM Paris et consultant en prospective. Il a collaboré au magazine Alternatives économiques et à la revue L'Économie politique, et créé et animé un lieu de débats, le Café de la prospective. Il a contribué à l’achèvement de l’édition du Journal, après le décès prématuré de Marie-France Mousli, éditrice des trois premiers tomes. Claire Paulhan est éditrice et chercheuse.
