These workshops are ideal for everyone—from those with no experience in the arts to seasoned performers. Each session, led by Sunny Deewana, will focus on a unique aspect of improv, ensuring a well-rounded experience for all participants. He has independently studied improv, acting, music, and dance. Sunny studied long and short-form improv. Sunny has adapted his knowledge of improv from English to Punjabi and Hindi to cater to Brampton's unique demographic. Sunny's other accomplishments include his role on the webseries “Late Bloomer” starring Jasmeet Raina.Sunny has taught this series in Punjabi before.Sunny has taught these works as drop-ins with Satrang and Punjabi Arts AssociationAbout the OrganizersLaal Buttonstrives to provide opportunities for new immigrants and settlers from South Asian backgrounds to come together in a safe and inclusive place to celebrate the love and passion for performing arts. Each endeavor allows the community to come together and share struggles, laughs, stressors of being in a distant place and nurture meaningful and deep cultural as well as social connections. They set the stage, quite literally, to bring South Asian talent in the forefront! Workshop BreakdownWeek 1: Yes And, Introduction to ImprovLearn improv terminology, the concept of Yes And, and accepting offers.Understand the basics of storytelling in improv.Week 2: Advanced StorytellingExplore narrative arcs and the elements of a story: Who, Where, What, Why, and How?Week 3: Character Development (CROW)Dive into Character, Relationship, Objective, and Where/When.Week 4: Listening/CommunicationEnhance understanding of verbal, emotional, and physical cues.Week 5: Location and Stage CraftEstablish and respect space, and practice miming in improv. (Special Workshop from a visiting instructor)Week 6: Advance and ExpandIntegrate all skills into short-form stories.Week 7: Final Showcase EventThe Grand Finale: Improv NightWelcome and Introduction: Start with a warm welcome from Sunny and a brief introduction to the workshop and its goals.Short Performances: Each participant or group of participants can perform short improv scenes based on prompts or games they’ve practiced during the workshop.Audience Participation: Engage the audience by inviting them to suggest prompts or even join in on a few scenes.Group Performance: Conclude with a collaborative performance involving all participants.Closing Remarks and Q&A: End with closing remarks from Sunny and a Q&A session.Additional Elements: Record the entire showcase and upload it to Laal Button's YouTube channel.
