Screen Printing onto T-shirts & Cards | Printed by Us

Cultural Experiences
What will you get up to? In this workshop you will learn how Printed by Us , a Social Enterprise as part of The Archer Project utilises the craft of hand screen-printing to empower and rehabilitate previously homeless individuals. During the session you will screen-print your own t-shirt (available sizes XS to 5XL) with a choice of one of two 'Printing Positive Change' designs, as well as a pack of 4 greeting cards. This will also give you an insight into how both textile and paper screen-printing differs. This is an introductory course, aimed at all skill levels as we focus on the mindful benefits of screen-printing and how it is used as a vehicle for positive change. All materials will be provided. What are the mindful benefits? While screen printing is undeniably a technical process, it also has therapeutic benefits. Art and mental health have many intersections! By focusing on each careful pull of the squeegee, you’re invited to be fully engaged in the act of creation, which can serve as a mental break and a way to recharge. Studies show that engaging in creative activities can reduce anxiety, depression, and stress. It can even be used as a tool to process trauma. Artistic processes—even ones as technique-focused as screen printing—offer a productive way to process emotions, whether through visual expression or simply by providing a calming routine. Becca Gurney of Art & Design faculty at Saint Michael’s College notes, “ It takes patience. You have to slow down with it. There is no way for it to be instant. A piece of taking care of your mental health is slowing down and being in the moment. Screen Printing allows you to do that. ” Who are Printed by Us? From ink to income… Printed by Us is a community-driven initiative focused on creating supported employment opportunities to help vulnerable adults lead more fulfilling lives. Combining the power of screen printing and creativity with a passion for social purpose, we produce high-quality screen-printed products that carry a deeper meaning. Our team collaborate with independent artists to bring their designs to life, creating unique, handcrafted items. Each product is carefully crafted using organic and sustainably made materials, with a focus on ethical production methods. As a Social Enterprise, all our profits go back into running more screen printing workshops, developing our project and supporting more vulnerable adults through professional development. Our latest venture involves opening up our print-room for external workshops; Learn how we use screen-printing to develop skills and confidence and leave with a t-shirt and a pack of cards, Printed by You! Privacy notice By signing up to this course you agree to be added to our Community mailing list . You can unsubscribe at any time. Information Source: Printed by Us | eventbrite

Sacred circle dance workshop Devotion, dance and the sacred Honouring the gods magic dance. Dipping into the portal of the magic circle and all it may offer. In this short workshop we discover the possibilities of ancient circle dance, unveiling ancient movement, community and flow. Dancing in a circle is an ancient tradition common to many cultures for marking special occasions, strengthening community and encouraging togetherness. These movements and dances offer routes for transformative, therapeutic, meditative and potent qualities, seeking to inspire and encourage all . Circle dances are tools for personal insight and group connection, and demonstrate the deeply spiritual aspects of sacred dance and ritual dances. They provide a place of power, not ‘power-over’ but ‘power-from-within. This is the time of year of the harvest, Fruitful Mother and the Corn King. A time for giving thanks for all that is manifest and all that is offered through the bounteous gifts offered upon the earth. We learn an ancient circle dance and uncover how we may use this in our offerings, sacred devotion, and magic practice. We honour the sacred wheel, the gods of the harvest and the lord and lady of the land. Through journeying, embodiment and sacred flow, we dip into the pool, connecting to the secret language of energy and divine flow. We hold a series of dances within the workshop, which may include: * Unveiling- dance of veiled wisdom- Connecting and meeting divine. * Dance of the grain * Dance of the great circle * Dance to find our magic name * Unveiling- dance of veiled wisdom * Connecting and meeting divine * Dancing the harvest -finding the fruits * Honouring and devotion. Through deep immersive dances we delve to weave, and discover the magics within ourselves which connect to an archetype offering you sacred word, vision and insight. Through the use of journey, embodiment and sacred dance, we discover a pool of magic within the well of divinity that resides in our flow. We flourish in the uncovering of a sacred name for our divine dancer and offer devotion and honouring to all that is sacred. This workshop is a coming together for both group and self expression. Harnessing the ancient rhythms of the cycle of life and the harvest, and the cycles within our own rhythms and sacred self. All welcome, ages 12 and over. No previous dance experience necessary. Arts Fine Art
Join Aya Haidar for Stitch and Spill, an embroidery workshop exploring the concept of home - through connection, place, and memory. You will be encouraged to become part of a collective as we reflect, either with others or silently, on notions of home. We will stitch these reflections onto tea towels, a functional domestic item that soaks up both literal and metaphorical spills.  While making, we will explore together what home is and how we connect to it. Is it somewhere we have left and now long to return to? Is home bricks and mortar, or is it a feeling? No embroidery experience needed. This is a limited capacity workshop. Please register in one of the available time slots. Please note materials are limited to 1 teatowel per household. This workshop is suitable for children 7+ under adult supervision.  Stitch and Spill by Aya Haidar is part of Castlegate Festival, which celebrates the heritage, arts, music, and markets of Sheffield’s oldest quarter.  This workshop forms part of the public programme accompanying Home Making, an exhibition exploring radical placemaking by Sahra Hersi and Sofia Niazi, developed with Rajo, a women's group connected to Andalus Community Centre.  Access:  Ground floor step free access, automatic doors at entrance, disabled toilet through two sets of double doors.  About the artist:  Aya Haidar is a multimedia artist. Her work focuses on the use of found and recycled objects exploring loss, migration, memory, labour, domesticity and womanhood. Her hand-embroidered interventions onto culturally and historically specific objects, unfold silenced and authentic narratives around socially and politically engaged issues.   Haidar’s work has been included in exhibitions at institutions such as Cubitt, London and Museum of Contemporary Art, Slovenia (2019), New Art Exchange (Nottingham), Jeddah Arts Week 21,39, KSA (2017), as well as in Hans Ulrich Obrist and Hoor Al Qasimi’s Do It (2016). She is part of the permanent collections of the Guggenheim Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum and the Jameel Collection. Please note: A photographer will be present to document this event. Photos will be used by Arts Catalyst for documentation and marketing purposes. Cultural Experiences
Hello! In memory of our previous chair, Dave Bennett, Truro Cycling Club are hosting our second Dave Bennett Memorial Ride. Starting from Shortlanesend Village Hall you will have the choice of three routes taking in the best that West Cornwall has to offer. Our two charities are Centrepoint and Cornwall Hospice Care . Centrepoint is the UK's leading youth homelessness charity. They provide nationwide support and secure housing to young people who are homeless. Cornwall Hospice Care is Cornwalls 24/7 charity providing compassionate and specialised end of life care for patients and their families. Last year we managed to raise £1321 for these two excellent causes and we hope that we can raise even more this year. Routes This years routes are yet to be confirmed but will be very similar to last years with three options: a 40k, a 100k and a 160k. The routes will be checked, risk assessed and ridden soon so watch this space for maps and links to the all important GPX files! Please note: the routes are not signposted and we do not provide written routecards. Provisions You will be well stocked with multiple cafe options on the route but, most importantly, we will once again be taking over the TRA hall in Mount Hawke. Bring your shrapnel along as we ask for donations in return for homemade baked goods! Last year we had a smorgasbord of brownies, victoria sponges and more! Extra bits We are but a small club and so unfortunately we do not offer anything along the lines of medals or jerseys but you can go home at the end of the day knowing that you've enjoyed some of the best lanes in the South West and raised funds for two vital causes. Want more? We are a club with a broad range of riders based in Truro that have rides most weekends all year and in the weeknights in the summer. If you're interested in joining us then head to our website or talk to George at the start and end of the ride. Information Source: eventbrite

The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2005 or also known as Martyn’s Law is a legal requirement for businesses and organisations responsible for publicly accessible spaces. It introduces mandatory security measures to prepare for and respond to potential terrorist threats. The law was created by Figen Murray in tribute to her son, Martyn Hett, who was tragically killed alongside 21 others in the Manchester Arena terrorist attack in 2017. The law will be relevant to any public accessible building with a capacity of 200 or more which includes shops, restaurants, nightclubs, cinemas, theatres, arenas, sports grounds, libraries, museums, conference centres, visitor attractions, hotels, places of worship, hospitals, education institutions and outdoor events spaces. This is a unique opportunity to hear from Figen herself as well as to find out more details about the law and how you can prepare your business moving forward. Also a chance to hear from other security experts across the region and network with like minded businesses. Information Source: South Yorkshire Local Visitor Economy Partnership | eventbrite

From poetry to podcasts, Adrian Scott promises us an evening that's rooted in the magic of Sheffield's rich history. We're back and better than ever for Sounds About Write in September! Join The Writers Workshop for its monthly live literature event downstairs at Sheffield Plate. Each month we invite a published author to share their work and insight into their writing journey, and then we open the floor to emerging writers in our open-mic segment. Your work doesn't have to be polished ... it just needs to sound about right! The event begins at 6:45PM, but join members of the Workshop upstairs from 6:15PM for some socialising before the event. To reserve an open-mic slot, please book an open-mic ticket through Eventbrite (Note: we will no longer be taking open-mic bookings over email). We're pleased to welcome Adrian Scott as our guest for September. With poetry and podcasts to talk about, it's going to be a really interesting discussion, we're sure! We asked Adrian to tell us a bit about himself and he said: I have been writing and publishing poetry for the last 10 years. I have four collections – The Call of the Unwritten, Arriving in Magic and A Night Sea Journey and A Sheffield Traipsing. Discovering this calling later in life has propelled me into spending more time in the Rivelin Valley, where I live -- a place with roots going back into the pre-Industrial Revolution. For me, the city reads like a collection of villages welded together by our industrial past, revolving around a struggling city centre whose civic buildings speak of past prosperity, whereas other parts speak of our present inequalities. My writing life was further opened up by my anxiety breakdown in 2014 and it has, once I learned to accept it, invited me to rich seams of creativity. I produce two podcasts The Anxious Poet’s Podcast and Grim Up North? With writer Matt Carr. Information Source: The Writers Workshop | eventbrite

Our menus do not mimic meat or shy away from indulgence; instead, they embrace the full, expressive potential of seasonal produce-fermented, roasted, smashed, pickled, steeped, whipped, and layered. For this special supper, we're taking over The Three Tuns, one of Sheffield's oldest pubs, where warmth resonates in the wood grain and tales echo from the cellar. We will transform the space into a candlelit dining room for one night only, where shared plates meet communal tables, allowing you to immerse yourself in the wonders of muse.supperclub. Guided by Chef Nathalie Jones- a cookbook author (Easy As) and the maker of @muse.supperclub This evening's menu unfolds in a series of movements, transitioning from brightness and spice to warmth and softness, all grounded in comfort. This is food meant to be savored slowly, served family-style, and accompanied by natural wines that whisper rather than shout-wines selected to enhance acidity, texture, and a hint of the wild. This is supper as it should be: slow, social, and crafted with care. -MENU - first course- pickled rhubarb with cress and salted butter spicy gochugang butter truffle vegan chashew ricotta (ve) with focaccia & sourdough second course - a trio of small plates smokey roasted pickled beets with ajo blanco (ve) smashed baby roasted potatoes with aioli miso orange fennel with burrata third course - hispi miso cabbage (ve) dessert- nathalie’s chocolate mousse Information Source: Muse.supperclub | eventbrite

Family Events
These antenatal workshops are to support breastfeeding for families in the York area. Treasure Chest volunteers run free monthly antenatal breastfeeding workshops where pregnant people and a partner/family member/friend can attend to gain a better insight of how to get off to a good start in breastfeeding your new baby. Our workshops give you the opportunity to explore the reasons why breastfeeding is a great way to feed your baby, or babies! We will let you know what to expect covering everything from the first feed to breastfeeding in public and expressing. We will also signpost where to find help and support in the local area just in case you need it. Finally, there is the opportunity to talk to a breastfeeding parent about their experiences and ask any questions you may have. Partners are very welcome too so you both have the opportunity to ask questions and prepare before your baby arrives. When should I come? We try to accommodate as many couples as possible onto each workshop but due to limited numbers, please try to book ahead to attend when you are around 30-36 weeks pregnant, although you can book during any stage of your pregnancy. We can only accept bookings from people living in the York area. We run our workshops free of charge so that they are accessible to everyone; we welcome donations to help support more families. You'll have the opportunity to give when you book your ticket by choosing the 'with donation' option. Where do they take place? Fairhurst Library, University of York, York, YO10 5DD One of our Peer Supporters will meet you at the reception area and take you up to the room (lifts are available). Parking is free on Saturdays. If you park in Car Park C there are stairs or a lift up to the walkway which takes you directly to the Library entrance. You can find information on travel to the venue at the University website: https://www.york.ac.uk/about/transport-maps-parking/ How long are the workshops? Workshops begin at 9:30 am, and run until approximately 1pm ( there will be breaks!) Please aim to arrive at 9.15am. Don't worry if you are late, the Library reception will give you directions to the room - just come in and join us. If you have any questions please email treasurechestyork@gmail.com Data Protection : When booking we will ask you to leave your name, contact details and baby’s due date to help us prepare for the workshop and to contact you with information both before and after the workshop. We will also contact you after the workshop to ask for your feedback. Please either book 10.30-1pm slot or 1-3pm slot. Eco-Open Homes events across East Sussex are an opportunity to ask a local person about an energy saving improvment that they’ve made, and see if it might work for you. On an event day, people who have made energy saving improvements open up their homes to share their experiences. Visiting a home is a great way to find out about the reality of getting solar panels, insulation, triple glazing, or new heating options without talking to a salesman. You can have a good look at the technology, ask the residents whether the installation was a hassle, and find out much they’re really saving on their energy bills as a result.
