Blackburn Cathedral is hosting a Creation Care Conference from 31st October to 1st November, bringing together voices from across the Christian spectrum to explore how faith communities can respond to the environmental crisis. The event takes place in the awe-inspiring presence of Gaia , a large-scale sculpture of the Earth by internationally- renowned artist Luke Jerram. Suspended in the Cathedral’s nave, this striking installation prompts a fundamental question: “ What is the relationship between Christianity and concern for human-madeclimate change? ” The conference begins on Friday evening with a keynote address by Dr Canon Ruth Valerio, a theologian, environmentalist, and social activist. Saturday will offer opportunities for in-depth dialogue, networking and a series of seminars, culminating in a Creation Care Eucharist service at the Cathedral. In the opening chapters of Genesis, God formed humanity out of the dust of the earth and gave a mandate to “tend and keep the garden”, in other words, care for God’s creation. This conference, the theme of which is "God’s World and our Mission", will offer a space open to people of all faiths and none to discuss the issues together. Each individual has equal opportunity to connect with each person of the opposite gender. There are strictly no awkward group tables at our events! After spending 5 minutes speaking to each other, females will remain seated, and the males will move on to the next table. This is a structured event organized to create the most efficient and beneficial event for you to build connections. There will be a break halfway through the event where you are welcome to indulge in our refreshments table. We will be providing complimentary drinks, desserts, and light food. After the break, the rotations will continue. We advise attendees to express their liking to other singles if they feel a connection. However, we can understand that this may be daunting for some, so our organizers are happy to advocate on your behalf and express your interest if you need us to. Once the rotations are completed, we have a designated time frame for those who feel a connection they would like to explore further. This gives the opportunity to speak a little more and decide whether you would like to exchange contact information and in sha Allah it will be the start of a beautiful journey to marriage. How long is the event? The event is anticipated to last 3 hours. Is there parking available? Yes, we have plenty of car parking spaces available (free). Can I bring a chaperone/ parent? Yes! We are happy for you to bring up to 2 chaperones and we do encourage their attendance, whether it be a friend, parent, or relative. To inform us there will be a chaperone attending along with you, please purchase the 'Chaperones' tickets along with your own. Chaperones will be made to feel welcome, they will be provided with a comfortable seating area within the same room as the event. Complimentary refreshments and snacks are at their disposal. UNDER 16 WITH PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN Everything Under The Sun bring their live celebration of the music of Pink Floyd to Blackburn Cathedral Everything Under The Sun continue their acclaimed celebration of the 50 th anniversary of Wish You Were Here, performing the album in full, alongside The Dark Side of the Moon plus others in a 2 hour show that features synchronised lasers and bespoke video content accompanying the 7-piece band (featuring the cathedral organ). Everything Under The Sun isn't a tribute band but combines the grandeur of historic pipe organs with the raw energy of a rock band, creating a one-of-a-kind live experience in amazing architectural spaces.
