MILAREPA ( première) | Theaterhuis de Berenkuil
In de jaren 90 speelde Helmert Woudenberg drie solo's over het leven van de Tibetaanse monnik Milarepa. Deze monnik leefde in de 11e eeuw, schreef meer dan 3000 verzen en wordt nog altijd vereerd.
De vernederingen uit zijn jeugd drijven hem tot wraak. Een verschrikkelijke wraak met onschuldige slachtoffers. Maar de wraak brengt geen verlichting; integendeel. Maar als wraak het antwoord niet is, wat dan wel? Milarepa gaat op zoek om de kwade krachten die in hem wonen, te keren. Op zoek naar verlossing en verlichting. Zijn zoektocht van wraak naar verlichting vormde de basis voor de solo's van Helmert.
Helmert Woudenberg stelde verhalenverteller Eric Borrias voor om met de teksten van die solo's aan de gang te gaan. Borrias bewerkte de teksten tot éen voorstelling, waarin we MIlarepa volgen van zijn jeugd tot en met zijn sterven en reïncarnatie.
Helmert Woudenberg heeft deze voorstelling helaas niet meer kunnen zien; hij overleed onverwacht op 23 november 2023. Uitgerekend de verjaardag van Borrias.
Zijn Milarepa is een eerbetoon aan een groot theatermaker.

Ik heb de voorstellingen van Helmert gezien en de magie was dat zijn spel van Aarde, Water, Lucht en Vuur door Eric heen schemerde. Prachtig, prachtig, prachtig.
Ik kon die oom wel van het podium trekken! Zo overtuigend neergezet.

Furniture Upcycling for Neurodivergent Adults | Leigh Spinners Mill
Reet Good Wood CIC is a creative group specifically for Neurodivergent adults who have had a late diagnosis, are waiting for a diagnosis or are not seeking one but identify as being neurodivergent. For people who have 'managed' to get through life without any kind of support - this space is for you. Unfortunately we do not meet criteria for formal support but being around other people like you is massively important. Ruth, who runs Reet Good Wood, offers this workshop at her studio on Floor 5 of Spinners Mill in Leigh Ruth says... Being Neurodivergent has many challenges. It can be quite isolating at times and some people often feel misunderstood, like they don’t ’fit in’ and can struggle to thrive in a world suited to neurotypical people. Last year I found my calm in the chaos that goes on in my brain as a neurodivergent adult. I found this sense of calm by Upcycling wooden furniture. It gave me an outlet and massively improved my mental health and emotional wellbeing. So, I thought, why not share it with other Neurodivergent adults!? There is very little support out there when you're waiting for a diagnosis and very little afterwards, and although some people might not need it, for others being around other neurodivergent people can help massively. It can give a sense of belonging, provide a safe space to be your authentic self, in a space where you don’t have to worry about being judged or mistreated. In this session you get to have a go at an activity we feel is really beneficial to our health. We provide small pieces of furniture for you to work on, all paints and materials needed. Come and have a go at this relaxing and creative activity. By offering a workshop at a weekend it means the building is quiet, and we can create more bespoke working and teaching experiences. This workshop is for adults of any gender identity, who consider themselves to be neurodivergent. You do need to be able to work independently as you will be expected to be able to work unsupervised at times, to keep yourself safe and to be able to do your own furniture painting. Group size is limited to 6 places. Demand for these sessions is quite high so if you can not make it please cancel your booking in advance to allow other people to book. If you want a video or any more information about the workshop space, or want to visit first - that can be arranged. Drinks, biscuits and great company all included. Lunch is not provided but we do have a microwave and fridge if you want to bring your own. We do provide drinks and biscuits :)
These sessions are located in a workshop environment so please wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty / paint on. Please arrive on time to start at 11:30am.

OMD: lezing Peter Thoben | DOMUSDELA
Over het monumentale complex: In 1419/1420 schonk de toenmalige heer van Eindhoven, Jan II van Schoonvorst (ca. 1381-1434), een kasteel aan de Augustijner kanunniken. Dit kasteel deed dienst als klooster en kreeg de naam ‘Ons Lieven Vrouwe op die Haghe’. Tijdens de Beeldenstorm in 1566 werd het klooster geplunderd en liep zware schade op. In 1581, tijdens de Tachtigjarige Oorlog, stak het Staatse leger de kloostergebouwen in brand en nam de ongeveer twintig monniken gevangen. Pas in 1628 werd het complex enigszins hersteld, daaraan herinneren de muurankers op de achtergevel van het complex. In 1891 kwamen de gebouwen in handen van de paters Augustijnen die er een nieuw klooster stichtten. Kort daarna bouwden ze een kerk (de Paterskerk of Augustijnenkerk) en een gymnasium voor jongens (het Augustinianum met bijbehorende kapel). De neogotische kerk is ontworpen door architect Jos Hegener (1864-1933) en Petrus Johannes Bekkers (1859-1918). De kerk dateert uit 1898. Op de torenspits staat het Heilig Hartbeeld van de hand van de Roermondse beeldhouwer Jean Geelen (1852-1926). Het Augustinianum is eveneens ontworpen door Hegener en dateert uit de jaren 1913-1918. De uitbreiding van het gymnasium en de studentenkapel, met de opmerkelijke expressionistische bouwstijl, zijn in 1924/1925 ontworpen door architect Paul Bellot (1876-1944). Coöperatie DELA werd in 2016 eigenaar en realiseerde een bijzondere herontwikkeling, getekend door de bureaus diederendirrix en architecten|en|en. Het landschapsontwerp is gemaakt door Buro Lubbers.

Although you are proud of your Duolingo streak, every time you try to speak Dutch person you inevitably switch back to English. Learning a language means you have to make mistakes, and that’s just not fun… right? In Improv Your Dutch, it is all about fun. And mistakes. Through games and exercises from improvised theater, you will speak Dutch without focusing on grammar, word order or whether to use ‘de’ or ‘het’. It’s about trying it out, laughing, and surprising yourself. What will happen in the course?We will start by getting to know each other and warming up our body and brain. Every class focuses on a theme inspired by improv- like emotions, playing characters, or “pretending like you know something when you actually don’t”. You will work alone, in pairs and in groups. You will learn by doing and by watching others.The classes are taught in Dutch, with some English translations whenever necessary. That sounds scary!Yes, of course it is scary! Learning a language is scary, and making mistakes is too. That is why I focus on safety and positivity in class. I will cheer you on from the side and will ask your classmates to do the same. If we understand what the other player means, that is more than enough. Of course you might speak slowly or with imperfect grammer. If you’re already perfect at Dutch, there’s no need to improve it! All levels or Dutch and all levels of improv are welcome. Usually, the class is a mix of levels (and it’s the most fun that way). This course runs for 8 weeks, from Sept 16 - Nov 4, with a showcase on Nov 11.
