Feb 25, 2024 (UTC-7)ENDED
Longmont
Join the Firehouse Art Center in Longmont for an enlightening artist talk with Amy Lummus, the creator of the powerful exhibition "Spit and Splinters." This special event will take place on February 25, 2024. Lummus will guide attendees on a journey through her remarkable collection of large-scale interactive and kinetic sculptures, inspired by the stories of trauma shared by her female models. Through her unique artistic process of hammering, screwing, soldering, and fusing unfinished wood and frayed canvas, Lummus explores how materials can convey powerful narratives. The exhibition, which runs from February 9 to March 3, 2024, also includes two-dimensional works that express both the rawness of trauma and the tenderness of survival. The kinetic sculptures in "Spit and Splinters" blur the lines between sculpture and portraiture, inviting viewers to participate in the artworks through interactive elements. As attendees turn cranks and press buttons, they become part of the intricate journey from trauma to healing portrayed in Lummus's art. Although the moving elements may distort the overall image, the connection to the eyes of the model remains unbroken, leaving a lasting impact on the viewer. After the artist talk, there will be a Q&A session and a final artist walkthrough of the exhibit. Women’s Self-Defense: The HERA MethodAt 4 Rings Tactical, we understand that true self-defense is more than just physical techniques—it’s about awareness, emotional regulation, and confidence. Our women's self-defense program, built around the HERA Method, was created by experts Robert and Vajra to give women the tools they need to prevent dangerous situations and respond effectively if needed. The HERA Method focuses on a holistic approach to self-defense, addressing not only the physical but also the mental and emotional components of safety. Holistic. Environmental. Realistic. Active. Our approach is holistic, meaning we address the whole person—body, mind, and spirit—in a way that empowers women to trust their instincts, avoid dangerous situations, and respond decisively when necessary. We emphasize environmental awareness and early threat detection, ensuring that you are equipped to recognize danger before it escalates. Avoidance and evasion are often the most effective tools for staying safe, and we teach techniques to help you escape a threat without engaging in physical confrontation. However, if escape is not an option, we also teach realistic techniques for self-defense that are simple, effective, and designed to eliminate threats quickly, enabling you to get to safety. But the HERA Method is more than just self-defense moves. It’s about activating your inner strength and staying grounded when it matters most. We teach techniques to help you regulate your nervous system under stress, allowing you to stay calm and make clear decisions in high-pressure situations. Healing, Empowering, Reparative, AffirmingThe HERA Method is also affirming and healing—creating a space for women to come together, share wisdom, and build a sense of community. Our classes are designed to be a safe, supportive environment, where you can learn self-defense techniques, fun exercises, and empowering discussions. We’ve piloted the HERA Method with tremendous success in Colorado and have taught it across the country. The program has empowered women from all walks of life to feel more confident, capable, and prepared to handle the unpredictable nature of the world around them. Why HERA?Holistic Approach: Body, mind, and spirit training for comprehensive empowerment.Environmental Awareness: Skills for detecting and avoiding potential threats before they escalate.Realistic Techniques: Practical, proven strategies for escaping danger and eliminating threats when necessary.Active Confidence: Tools for emotional regulation to stay calm and decisive in moments of stress.Whether you are looking to enhance your personal safety, gain confidence, or connect with a community of like-minded women, the HERA Method offers the tools, techniques, and support to help you thrive in a complex world.
