In this exciting collaboration, you will join Mark, the Edinburgh Sketcher, as he shares the techniques he has developed from over a decade of sketching around Edinburgh. He will highlight details of architecture and nature to ignite your creativity into fabulous sketches that you can take home.
Each class will focus on perspective, depth and composition whilst immersing yourself in the beauty and historic environment of Falkland Palace.
The 3 hour sessions are £45 per person and all materials needed for the day are provided.
Perfect for all levels, whether you are a beginner, or simply would like to learn more about about Mark's speed-sketching style, this is the place to practice sketching outdoors with ink and watercolour.
Children aged 8 and above are welcome, however any children aged 8 - 15 must be accompanied by a ticket holding adult. This is a walking and sketching tour so do check the forecast and come dressed for the Scottish weather! An indoor option will be available should the weather be particularly bad.

Power, Propaganda and Politics.
Dr Amy Blakeway is a Senior Lecturer in Scottish History at the University of St Andrews and an expert on James V. This talk will draw on her research to show how this little-known monarch used propaganda and self-promotion to assert his royal power and authority, comparing him to other, better-known, Stewart monarchs.
Please be aware the chapel is only accessable up one flight of spiral stairs.

We will spend a day exploring key navigation skills including map reading and basic compass work, dealing with emergencies, what kit to bring, essential leadership concepts, and much more. The course is all taught outdoors in small groups of no more than 6 volunteers. It is 100% practical. Like you, the trainer will be a volunteer. They are experienced in leading walks with Ramblers Scotland. Who is the course for?This course is for Ramblers Scotland volunteers who will lead walks for our groups. Some people attend to learn more about what it's like to lead walks and decide if the role is for them. Others attend to develop their skills and confidence. We extend a warm welcome to both new and experienced walk leaders. The course is ideal for people who lead Leisurely and Moderate walks. If you lead Easy and Easy Access walks, you will still enjoy the course and it may give you confidence to think about leading more challenging walks in the future. If you lead Strenuous or Technical walks, this course will give you the chance to refresh some of the basics. Entry requirementsThe course will build on the Walk Leader Foundations and Preventing and Managing Incidents e-Learning courses that are available free to all our walk leaders. We ask that you complete these ahead of the training day. We will send you information before the course to help you access these courses and come prepared for a great day.

Engage your children in a two-hour workshop where they can learn how to ride a bike for the first time, acquire new skills, and gain confidence in handling a bike, hosted by the City of Joondalup. This year we are joined by several great exponents of traditional song - Kate Taylor from Skene in Aberdeenshire, Macdara Yeates from Dublin - a winner of the RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards 2025, Steve Turner from Nottingham a renowned singer and expert exponent of the concertina, and Ellie Beaton from Rothienorman now living in Glasgow - winner of the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician for 2025. The event is hosted by Jimmy Hutchison, Chris Miles and Pete Shepheard - singers and organisers of FifeSing2025. Free teas & coffees in the interval. We will meet in my herbal practice in Falkland and then go for a short (but slow) foraging walk around Falkland to identify, forage and connect with some herbs that can be found growing and collected at this time of year.
Then we will bring things back to my space to taste and make into herbal remedies that can be used to support your health and well-being.
Suitable for ages 8+ but mainly aimed towards an adult audience, booking essential and please let me know if you have any mobilty issues because my space is acessed by stairs and some of the walk will be off road.

We are delighted to be inviting visitors this year for a unique, expert-led tour of the beautiful Falkland Palace Gardens.
Join us for an exclusive, behind-the-scenes afternoon guided walk through the stunning grounds of Falkland Palace. Led by our former Head Gardener, Susan, who brings more than a decade of hands-on experience and heartfelt passion for the garden, this special event offers a rare opportunity to experience the beauty of the grounds through the vision and work of our dedicated garden team.
This year we are delighted to be hosting three afternoon tours and one evening tour. The event will last around an hour and a half, where you will be welcomed into our education room for light refreshments and a brief historical introduction to the gardens.

Tuesday 15th July at 6pm
Our afternoon tours are running three times throughout the Summer months and offer a chance for visitors to see the gardens change with the seasons, as well as a special evening tour, offering a unique opportunity to experience this Royal garden out of regular visiting hours.
These bespoke tours will include highlights such as an in-depth exploration of the expansive gardens, insightful commentary on the historical garden design, seasonal highlights and diverse plantings. As you walk around the grounds, you will see how the team supports biodiversity and adapts to environmental challenges. Wander through the historic orchard, underplanted with a wildflower meadow and complete with a spectacular display of cherry and apples trees, as well as a living willow labyrinth. Marvel at the beauty of the formal gardens, filled with colour and fragrance from the herbaceous perennials, all set against the backdrop of the stunning palace itself.
Whether you are a gardening enthusiast, history lover or simply looking for a peaceful and informative tour in a beautiful setting, this event promises to be both engaging and inspiring.
