Under Orange Blossom is a bittersweet bite into life as a mixed-race woman raised in a rural area in the UK. Weaving in references to sacred stories and pastoral imagery, Natu captures self-image, adulthood, intimacy and relationships in a strangely sweetened light,. Her poetry juxtaposes the idyllic softness of the countryside with rough, raw life experiences. This is just the beginning of a metaphorical road trip along cultural/religious barriers, womanhood and healing, lingering on every page more luscious than the last. Background: The World Reimagined is a groundbreaking art installation project which aims to redefine how we understand the Transatlantic Trade in Enslaved Africans and its lasting impact. The university has been gifted two globes from this initiative, with one now installed at Exeter, Streatham Campus. The globe was gifted to the University on the agreement that it would be used for hosting educational and cultural events and activities. The Exeter (Streatham Campus) based globe - ‘Uncertain Voyage’: A complex Triangle created by Nadia Akingbule “The design on this globe explores an aspect of the complexity of Britain’s relationship with Africa, the Americas and the Caribbean across generations, and the legacy of the Transatlantic Trade in Enslaved Africans on the UK’s role and reputation in the world. Featured in the design are a man and woman who have arrived in Britain from the Caribbean, with the HMT Empire Windrush also visible, the ship that carried passengers on a voyage from Jamaica to London in 1948.” For information on travelling to the University's Streatham Campus, please visit the webpage here.
